Note: Thomas Howard (1747-1791) who became the Third Earl of Effingham upon the death of his father in 1763, became known as a strong neutralist during the period of the American Revolution. A proponent of neither side, he disagreed with the rebellion of the colonists, but also with their taxation without representation. In his protest against any war against the colonies, he famously resigned his post – an act which later garnered him attention in the new country with the naming of a frigate after him, as well as counties in both Georgia and Illinois. China - Banque Industrielle De Chine 1914-17 "Tientsin" Issue 5 DollarsPick S399 (S/M#C254-2b) place of issue - TIENTSIN overprinted in black, 2 manuscript signatures series B 1914 number 091838, the 1914 supposedly because of the issue date, however hand stamped with 25th October 1917 at centre obverse, in a PMG holder graded Choice Fine 15 NET Ink Burn. This is an Extraordinarily Rare note especially in issued format due to the extremely successful note redemption rate nearing 100%, in fact its so Rare that the current SCWPM records this and the higher denominations from the series only as SPECIMENS and this is the ONLY issued example recorded on the PMG Population Report at the time of writing. A very attractive design as expected from Bradbury Wilkinson & Co., London in blue on multicolour featuring guilloche panels with values in Chinese and English along with 2 statues of what appear to be Chinese mythological creatures at lower centre left and right on obverse, also the text at centre in a mix of English, French and Chinese. The reverse in violet on multicolour with what appears to be an illustration of the popular Temple of Heaven in its methodical Confucian design. The temple originally served as a vast stage for solemn rites performed by the emperor (the literal 'Son of Heaven'), who prayed there for good harvests at winter solstice and sought divine clearance and atonement. Since 1918 this private imperial domain has opened its gates to the public and is a poplar site where people perform daily taichi, twirl on gymnastic bars and sing revolutionary songs. The Rarity of this note makes it a real treat for any collector and most likely to be missing from even the utmost advanced collections. In contrast, online research shows none of this denomination offered with only 1 of the same type currently in the collection of the National Museum of American History and only the 10 Dollars denomination of the same type offered in recent times

IraqNational Bank Seventh issue 5 Dinars Pick 40b Law of 1947 (1955) signature Abdul Ilah Hafiudh serial number F011834 and variety with small head watermark, GVF - EF pressed Exceptionally Rare and widely collected. In red on multicolour featuring the popular thick lips portrait of King Faisal II as an adolescent at right obverse. The reverse depicting an ancient carving illustrating Hamurabiy yatasallam al-sharia (King Hammurabi receives the Law), Hammurabi (at left) is in conversation with the sun god Shamash. Hammurabi was the King of Babylon between 1792 and 1750 BC and, although not one of the greatest of the Babylonian kings, he is known because of this stele which contains the code of laws. The illustration is adapted from the famous diorite stele, discovered in 1901-02, which contains the laws of Hammurabi . Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. This note is a fine example of the last issue for the National Bank before it became Central Bank of Iraq. The Iraqi revolution of 1958 lead to monumental change in the rule and administration of Iraq which lead to significant changes in the banknotes circulating in Iraq. Although the Bank's title changed in July 1956 during the last years before the monarchy was overthrown in 1958, the Central Bank's first issued notes were released into circulation on 5th February 1959 (for a full story see ‘The First Bank Notes of Republican Iraq’ in IBNS Journal Volume 44 Number 4).
