Elizabeth I - Defence of the Kingdom, undated (c.1570) Medalet cast in silver, 23mm diameter, by E.Mestrelle. Obverse: Bust left, crowned and draped, Portcullis before and Rose behind, QVID NOS SINE TE, Reverse: Castle on a mount, between ER, below, a ribbon inscribed O QVANTO (N reversed) across a sphere, VF or better with a hint of toning. The absence of a date suggest this medalet is unlikely to commemorate a specific event or occasion, and the devices of portcullis, rose and castle refer more generally to the solidity of the Sovereign and State.
