Afghanistan Medal, Second Afghan War, in silver, with 2 clasps, Kandahar and Ahmed Khel, awarded to 1828 Cpl. J. Denton 2/60th Foot, GVF, the obverse with some light scratches in the fields, comes with copied papers of Depot Battalions Pay List, Statements of Pay and Allowances of Recruits, and a list of Men of the 2nd Battalion 60th Rifles who have died, been killed, made Prisoners of War or deserted. This lists the death of Joseph Denton, who had been promoted to Lance Sergeant on 22nd Feb 1881, and is listed as having died on 20th April 1881, at Newcastle (Natal) soon after peace was signed. Italy - Tuscany, Order of St. Joseph, Knight's Star in gold and enamel, 58mm x 38mm , gross weight 13.77 grammes, a six-armed cross, with ball finials with red-enamelled gold rays between each quadrant. Obverse: A figure of St. Joseph with UBIQUE SIMILITUS in a red enamelled border, Reverse: withy the inscription S J F 1807, NEF with some of the red enamel missing from the top of the medal below the crown suspension. The Order of Saint Joseph was instituted in 1807 by Ferdinand III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, (during his reign as Grand Duke of Wurzburg) and transformed in 1817 into a Tuscan Roman Catholic Dynastic Order. It is awarded for services towards Tuscan culture and civilisation and to the Grand Ducal Houses as a whole. The order was originally divided into civil and military categories, although these are now defunct. It is now divided into three levels: Knight's Grand Cross (30 members), Commander (60 members) and Knights (150 members). Sovereigns, Heads of State, and Princes of the Grand Ducal House and other Royal Houses, Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church and Tuscan Metropolitan Archbishops were excluded form the count. All members had to be Catholics and the number of women could not exceed fifty (excluding Princesses of the Grand Ducal and other Royal Houses, wives of Heads of State and Dames of the Order of Saint Stephen).

The research shows the citation for James who was awarded the Military Medal on 16/8/1917 for Polygon Wood, after he took charge of his platoon after the platoon commander was killed. On 28th March the enemy attacked 'C' Company with an intense bombardment and the Battalion strength was reduced from 23 officers and 564 o/ranks, to 8 officers and 60 o/ranks. He is listed at the Commonwealth War Grave at Arras Memorial, France. Also World War II War Medal and Defence medal pair EF in a box with label Capt. During these actions he was awarded the Military Medal which was mentioned in the London Gazette on 9/12/1916, he received a bar to that medal 29/8/1918. In World War II he joined the 66th battalion of the West Riding Home Guard In the London Gazette of 15/12/1944 he was awarded the British Empire Medal (Military Division) in recognition of meritorous service to the Home Guard

Captain Oliver Gordon MVO RN First World War trio (as Lieutenant, Star to Sub-Lieutenant) and Member of the Victoria Order, World War II (4) War Medal, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star and 1939-45 star, in box of issue with original ribbons, also military epaulettes, Captain Oliver Gordon was Captain of HMS Exeter, a heavy cruiser, during World War II during which she was sunk in the Battle of the Java Sea March 1 1942. The lot includes the Book `Fight It Out` written by Captain Gordon in 1957 describing the epic encounter against overwhelming odds during the battle in 1942. He was taken Prisoner of War along with the survivors by the Japanese after the ship was sunk in the battle. The lot also includes many Christmas Greetings received by Captain Gordon during his time as a POW. Between the two World Wars he served on the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert and the lot includes photographs of Captain Gordon, some with King George V and Queen Alexandra, also letters from Buckingham Palace one signed by King George VI, a restricted letter from Mountbatten of Burma, a letter from the Imperial War Museum, photographs of crew and ships, along with a copy of a newspaper cutting reporting Captain Gordon`s death. Also included is the paperwork details and letters relating to the Companion of the Order of the Bath, though this has been retained by Captain Gordon`s family

A Great War DCM & MM group to Sjt. H. Temple Royal Engineers. Distinguished Conduct Medal G.V.R. (13666 2 Cpl. 1/ Sig. Co. R.E.), Military Medal G.V.R (13666 2 Cpl. 1/ D.S.Co. R.E.), 1914 Mons Star (13666 Sapr R.E.), British War & Victory Medals with M.I.D. oakleaf 13666 A.Sjt. R.E.Defence Medal, Imperial Service Medal GVIR (Harold Temple DCM MM). Mounted as worn, First two slightly polished otherwise GVF. The Imperial Service Medal was awarded to Mr Harold Temple DCM MM in recognition of nearly half a century of outstanding service to the Crown. Enlisted in R.E. in 1904, and served in Ireland, until early 1914, when he joined the Post Office Telegraph Service at New Cross. He went to France and Belgium when the war started won the DCM & MM, and was Mentioned in Despatches for Conspicuous Gallantry during operations - for repairing telephone lines under heavy gunfire, for carrying a wounded colleague to a dressing room under heavy fire and returning to duty. He was wounded twice and after six months at hospital was sent to Signal School at Farnham where he stayed till he was demobilised in 1919. He returned to the Post Office and was promoted to Inspector in 1941. He served as a Captain in the Home Guard in the Second World War.

Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. 1st Type Military Division awarded to Emily AnneCurtis, Unit Administrator, Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps. M.B.E. in case of issue with certificate of award dated June 1919. Together with other interesting original documentation. Mrs Curtis served at the Military Convalescent Hospital, Crownhill Plymouth, retiring in 1919, served 1939-45 with the Civil Defence at Caterham & Warlingham, (entitled to the Defence Medal) and died in 1952
