Prize medal, awarded to Sgt. J. Knight. 58th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery, Tug-Of-War, Royal Artillery badge on the reverse, 32mm diameter not hallmarked, with suspension loop at the top, Good Fine with an edge bruise, comes with handwritten researched note stating 'Flight Seargent (sic) J. Knights L.L.625-C 514 Squadron based at Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, killed 24th March 1944 on return from raid on Berlin. Mission consisted of 577 Lancasters, 216 Halifaxes and 18 Mosquitos. 44 Lancasters were lost in the raid. One of the crew members, Ron McAllister survived as a prisoner of war.

Rowing Medals to W.J.Fernie (2) University CambridgeTrial Eights Winning Crew 1895 , 51mm diameter in silver by D.Munsey/Peters of Cambridge, in half lunette-style presentation holder , boxed, with old white toning, suggesting once fully encased, the case with a shield-shaped plaque with inscription of the crew, and weights of the crew, and positions in the boat. W.J.Fernie is shown as Stroke position. The final elimination trial for rowers for entrance into the Cambridge Boat Race Crew for the historic University Boat Race. This is the only time prior to the Boat Race that the crews race over the full 4 1/4 mile Putney to Mortlake course. These race were contested intra-University Oxford v. Oxford and Cambridge v. Cambridge to decide the final crews. The Race still takes place today, although the medal prize has been replaced by the award of sponsored clothing and equipment to the competitors. Head of the River - Trinity Hall 51mm diameter in silver, by D.Munsey of Cambridge, in lunette-style presentation holder, boxed, with old white toning, the case with a shield-shaped plaque with inscription of the crew and their respective positions in the boat. W.J.Fernie is shown as position 7 in the boat, and his name and position are inscribed on the outer ring of the lunette case. UNC, both medals in the black boxes of issue. A fascinating insight into the history of the lead up to the annual University Boat Race.
