Countermarked issues of this type with PP assayer were issued on host coins 1795-1802. Only the second example of this scarce type we have offered in 17 years. Joaquim Arcoverde de Albuquerque Cavalcanti (January 17, 1850 – April 18, 1930) spectacular 8 ounces gold medal 1906, Arcoverde was the first Cardinal to be born in Latin America. He was known as "Cardeal Arcoverde". Only three of these medals were struck one for The Pope in The Vatican, one for Cardinal Arcoverde and this one which was given to President Rodrigues Alves President of Brazil 1902 -1906. Choice MS65 graded and encapsulated by NGC and attributed by them with the provenance of Alves.
