Good Fine. Cataloguer's note General Manuel Belgrano was a founding figure in the Wars of Argentinian Independence. At the battle of Tucuman, General Belgrano led the Army of the North, and defeated the Royalist Troops, led by General Pio de Tristan, who had a two-to-one advantage in numbers, thus halting the royalist advance on the North West of Argentina. This together with the Battle of Salta on 20 February 1813 allowed the Argentine troops to reaffirm the borders under their control. The cruiser ARA General Belgrano which was sunk during the Falklands War 1982 was named after him as was the earlier 1896 ARA General Belgrano, as well as Puerto Belgrano, the largest base of the Argentinian Navy. Many other small towns and departments also bear his name. These facts alone link the medal indirectly to many different historical events

Triple Unite 1642 Oxford Mint with tall narrow bust, declaration within wavy lines, plumes with bands on obverse only, Spink 2724, Schneider 284, Brooker 830, North 2381 a splendid example of the iconic coin graded and encapsulated by NGC as AU53 rare and desirable thus, comes with a retail ticket price of £65,000 which being the price the current vendor paid some years ago surely makes this lot a bargain at the current estimate. The English Civil War was in progress when this fabulous coin was stuck after Charles raised the Royal Standard in Nottingham on 22nd August 1642 he set up his court in Oxford where this spectacular piece was minted. The war against Cromwell's New Model Army dragged on until 1646 by which time Oxford was besieged with Charles escaping dressed as a servant. Charles joined the Scottish Presbyterian army but nine months later was handed over to the English Parliament after a payment of £100,000 was made. Negotiations between King and Parliament began but descended into intrigue as Charles made a secret deal with the Scots who invaded England in 1648 starting the Second Civil War. Once again Cromwell's New Model Army prevailed with Charles fleeing to Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight. Further negotiations collapsed into disarray with Parliament reducing itself to the so called Rump Parliament which eventually resulted in the trial and execution in January 1649 of Charles I

Y.M.C.A. (Young Men's Christian Association) Herford & Bad Salzuflen canteen 1/6 Mark Token Voucher (Lothar-Weiß SU.9) for the English speaking Soldiers and Army in the area of Herford and Bad Salzuflen, Germany after the end of World War II circa 1945 onwards. Printed in black on light red thin cardboard and uniface, featuring the Y.M.C.A. triangle logo at upper centre which was a well recognized and common sight during the war. Almost as soon as the war broke out Y.M.C.A. developed mobile canteens to bring refreshments to the troops. These second-hand vans painted camouflage green were first used in East London and by the end of 1940 there 500 vans in operation bringing refreshments to the troops, rescue workers and victims of bomb raids. At the retreat of Dunkirk , Y.M.C.A. remained on the beaches until ordered to leave. The vans followed advancing and withdrawing armies not only serving mugs of tea but also selling cigarettes, chocolate, cake, hair cream, toothpaste and stationery. They also provided food and drink to those made homeless and hungry. They also had cinema vans and mobile libraries. The first British YMCA mobile canteen landed on the Normandy beaches on 29th July 1944. Internationally, the World Alliance of YMCAs expanded its work with prisoners of war and refugees: more than 250 secretaries visited camps in 38 countries. The Y.M.C.A. was given ‘official military establishment status’ – essentially given permission to operate with troops in all areas and particularly in front line positions which was very dangerous in these circumstances where the canteens became under attack and the men being wounded or captured.
