Franco-British Exhibition medal 1908 51mm diameter in 9 carat gold, by F. Bowcher, Obverse: A winged female figure of Peace encourages the alliance between Britain and France, seated facing one another, LONDON MDCCCCVIII, Reverse: A female figure standing right, her arm aloft, regards a plaque(with recipient's name J.CAMPBELL BROWN. D.Sc.L.L.D.) with exhibition buildings beyond FRANCO BRITISH EXHIBITION. 69.16 grammes, Eimer 1903b, BHM 3960, UNC with matt finish, in the P. Vaughton & Sons red box of issue. Cataloguers note: The exhibition was held on a newly-prepared site at White City, West London. Others to be held there and for which medals were awarded, include the Japan-British Exhibition in 1910, and the Anglo-American Exhibition in 1914. James Campbell Brown was born in Aberdeen. His father George Brown worked as a chemical manufacturer in London at Bow Common Alum Works. Brown was educated at the Old Aberdeen Gymnasium under Dr. Alexander Anderson, then at the Marischal College. In 1863 he joined the Royal College of Chemistry, London. He graduated with a BSc in 1867 and received a University scholarship leading to a doctorate in 1870. He taught Chemistry at Aberdeen and then went on to lecture at the Liverpool Royal Infirmary School of Medicine. He also taught at the School of Medicine in Liverpool. Campbell was involved in the creation of the University of Liverpool. He was also involved in water quality studies for the City of Liverpool Water Works. As a specialist also on forensic chemistry he was often called as an expert in court cases. He died in 1910, and after his death his book 'History of Chemistry From The Earliest Times' was published.

Courtney the left with a manuscript counter signature of one of the many women employed by the Finance Department who were hired for this purpose, variety with wording "ONE" bent outwards at left and right centre reverse, VG - about Fine and Exceptionally scarce note. Black on brownish underprint displaying an illustration of a busy log river drive scene flanked by the portraits Countess and Earl of Aberdeen (Governor General). The reverse in green with guilloche panels and an illustration of the Parliament Buildings, view from front gate to the Centre block. These notes were printed in sheets of four with the same sheet number printed on each note. Printed by the American Banknote Company, Ottawa.
Canada Dominion of Canada 1 DollarPick 24Ab (DC-13c) Fine and Scarce variety with vertically printed word "ONE" at left and right on reverse curves outward, away from the centre of the note, at the centre of the word, dated 31st March 1898 left counter-signature manuscript and slightly faded, right signature Boville printed, plate D, series P and a collectible REPEATER number 703703, and well preserved for its age. The obverse in black on light brown with a busy log drive scene on a Canadian river flanked by portraits of Countess of Aberdeen at left and Earl of Aberdeen at right. The reverse in green with guilloche panels and an illustration of the Parliament building, Ottawa with a view from the front Gate to the Centre Block. Printed by the American Banknote Company, Ottawa in sheets of four notes with the check/plate letters A, B, C and D. The left signature varies and is manuscript entered by one of the many women employed by the Finance Department with exactly this purpose. Ishbel Maria Hamilton-Gordon, Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair, GBE (1857-1939) was a British author, philanthropist, and an advocate of women's interests. As the wife of John Hamilton-Gordon (who's portrait is at right), 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair, she was viceregal consort of Canada from 1893 to 1898 and of Ireland from 1906-1915. John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon, 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair, KT, KP, GCMG, GCVO, PC (1847-1934) known as The 7th Earl of Aberdeen from 1870 to 1916, was a Scottish politician. Born in Edinburgh, Lord Aberdeen held office in several countries, serving twice as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (1886; 1905–1915) and serving from 1893 to 1898 as the seventh Governor General of Canada.

VF or slightly better with very faint Pencil Annotation at upper margin and a tiny marginal tear at right but these not affecting the general appearance of the note and not extending into the design, the note in red and the obverse featuring an illustration of Aberdeen's King's College at centre and 3 Coat of Arms at 3 corners - top left is the Bank's Coat of Arms, top right is the County of Aberdeenshire and at lower left is the City of Aberdeen. The reverse displaying an enlarged Bank's Coat of Arms at centre on a guilloche panel. Printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Limited London and watermarked with a bust of Sir William Wallace based on the statue on Union Terrace in Aberdeen by Sir William Stevenson along with the Bank's monogram. The North of Scotland Bank notes have been and always are keenly sought after by collectors due to their imperviously beautiful design. It makes this a very rare and desirable note along with the fact that this bank was the last of Aberdeen issuers, the relatively small quantity of notes issued and this being the last design just before the bank's identity was completely lost in 1950 even through the Aberdonian directors determined efforts to preserve their independence after the London-based Midland Bank acquisition in 1923. All these facts make this a very rare and seldomly offered note
