Jones saw action at Le Cateau, and was one of many taken Prisoner of War at Le Cateau. The rear-guard action at the scene enabled the BEF to retreat from the German Army. 1914-1915 Stars (3) 10770 Pte.C.West 1st Essex Regiment. NEF. Killed in action Cape Helles, Gallipoli 6/8/1915. On August 6 1915 the 1st Essex and 88th Brigade were ordered 'Over The Top' at Cape Helles, sustaining heavy casualties including Pte.West. He is buried at Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery Sp.Mem.C.394, 17207 Pte.F Robbins 20th Manchester Regiment. NEF.
