IrelandHalfcrownCharles I Inchiquin Money S.6533 with 9dwt. 16gr mark. Issue of 1642, Type 2, with thick lettering and wire line inside beaded border, struck on an irregular hexagonal flan, weight 11.25 grammes, overall VF with most of the design struck clearly, extremely rare and keenly sought after in any grade. Authenticated by NGC and in their holder simply graded as "CLIPPED" by NGC. 9dwt 16grs should be 15 gramms rather than 11.25 so NGC's description is based on this as it is impossible with this crude design to know whether the coin has been clipped or struck underweight when issued. If the coin has in fact been clipped, rather than being manufactured under weight at the time of issue there is no clipping on any part of the design which is sharp, and it is not un-common to find other examples that have been offered in the past with weights between 11 and 12 gramms. A very pleasing example of this very rare type.
