Sir Ernest Musgrave Harvey was the 17th Chief Cashier which he became on the 6th May 1918 just as the end of World War I was approaching. The inflation caused during the war meant that demand for banknotes increased during Mr Harvey's time in office. Sir Harvey was knighted in 1920 and created a Baronet in 1933, among his other honours which were the CBE, Chavlier of the Legion of Honour and Chavlier of Leopold of Belgium.

France (2) a pair of 1000 Francs including "Ceres Et Mercure" Type 1927 modified Pick 90c (Fayette F38.30) dated 20th October 1938 signatures de Bletterie, Rousseau & Favre-Gilly block A.4610 306 number 115225306, GVF with usual small inner body holes and very tiny edge nicks on this very large sized note with an alluring and pleasing appearance. These earlier French series notes incorporate various beautiful and colourful designs and are very hard to maintain and find in high grade due to their nature with not very thick paper and especially this example with it's excessively large size. Ochre, blue and multicolour with portraits of Ceres and Mercury, also serving as watermarks, at upper left and right obverse with 2 cherubs - with Cock lower centre left holding sickle and maritime at right with paddle and anchor. The reverse with a four various craftsmen figures - Mathematician/Astronomer, Blacksmith, Painter/Artist and Scientist/Alchemist, on a river scene backroad with bota and ships. Along with the "Commerce Et Industrie" Type 1940 Pick 96a (Fayette F39.3) a LAST date 19th December 1940 for this signature type de Bletterie, Rousseau & Favre-Gilly block T.1260 963 number 031493963, about UNC or near so with minor rust at left 2 pinholes mostly marginal and very pleasing and scarce in this high grade World War II period note. Multicolour with allegorical female portraits at left and right with flowers, butterflies, agricultural produce and Cock on obverse. The reverse with illustration of Factories and ships in the background and allegorical man representing Industry at left with hammers, anvil, cog wheel and related along with Ceres at right holding the Caduceus staff representing Commerce with boat and anchor. Watermarked with another allegorical female portrait. An alluring and beautiful design certain to be enjoyed by any collector
Twenty Pounds CatternsWhite note World War II German Operation BERNHARD forgery B230OB dated 20th August 1932 serial number 46/M 77696, VF - GVF with multiple pinholes in body and hand stamped "VALS" where S is inked in pen translating from Dutch - False or Counterfeit. Although the operation was not successful, it had an enormous potential as at the time the Bank of England's specialists called these forgeries "the best they have seen" and if the mission was successful it would've had a devastating effect on the economy, up to 9 million Bernhard notes were produced to the amount of £134 million - a figure representing 10% of the total banknotes in circulation in the UK at the time.
World circa early 1900's onwards (119) all in mixed grades most between Good to VF and the majority of notes from Russia, including U.S.S.R, and Germany, including Reich banknote and Darlehenskassenscheine and a Not geld 50 Pfennig Siegburg. Each banknote with the distinctive illustration of the Palm tree and rising sun, believed due to the country adopting the song 'The Land of the Rising Sun' as its national anthem. Biafra, or Republic of Biafra, did not have a very long lived life as an independent state and its declaration of independence from Nigeria in May 1967, due to rising tensions in economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions in nature, between the various people of Nigeria, led to a Civil War that ended in January 1970 with what is believed almost 2 million Biafran civilians losing their lives (3/4 of which small children) caused by starvation in the region. The starvation was in result of the complete blockade of the Biafran region by the Nigerian Government and it led to the surrender of the Biafran Forces to the Nigerian Federal Military Government (FMG) in 1970, and the state re-joining Federal Nigeria.

Canada (Lower) Champlain & St. Lawrence Railroad denomination set of 3 unissued remainders all dated Montreal, 1st August 1837 and side A (3) generally about EF - EF and Scarce comprising 7 Pence 1/2 Penny = 15 Sous, this with a 20mm uneven tear at top margin. A 15 Pence = 30 Sous. And the Half a Dollar = 2 Shillings 6 Pence = 3 Francs. Each note uniface with a different vignette of a passenger steam train at centre and all feature the reverse of different Latin-American coin as follows - the 7 Pence 1/2 Penny has the Mexico 1 Real MO, the 15 Pence - Peru 2 Reals LIMAE and the 1/2 Dollar - a Bolivian 4 Reals PTS. These notes were issued in sheets of six with side B on the left and the side A on the right. An interesting historical fact is that the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad was the first public railroad in Canada and one of the first railways in British North America as we now understand the term, although the country had several tram-roads earlier - at least 2, and it was the first to use steam locomotives with a 14 miles of railway in operation, with the first steam locomotive used at the official opening of the railroad on July 21st 1836.

Along with 20 PoundsPick 267 (PMS NC4; BY SC631; Douglas 3a-1) serial number A207793, Fine - VF with a 7mm uneven tear to right margin slightly extending to design but not affecting the note's general appearance and a Scarce short-lived issue with only 350.000 examples on record. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited and watermarked with Sir Alexander Henderson of Press , it had every note featuring an illustration of Forth Railway bridge until the final issue had a ship negotiating the wrong channel under the bridge, only corrected on the final £1 issue.

Established in 1874, the restaurant was the grandest establishment of its kind in London and held a unique position in London social life. Many of its facilities were available for private hire. The King's Hall could accommodate 500 diners. The room is described as the 'Home of Golf, Hockey and Tennis clubs holding Annual Reunions'. The restaurant operated until 1954. It was demolished in 1955.
