The notes came from the archives at Note Printing Australia (NPA) and consisted of the last 800 10 shilling, 1 pound, 5 pounds and 10 pounds issues coupled with the first issue of the 1 dollar, 2 dollars, 10 dollars and 20 dollars notes. All the notes have the last 3 digits of the serial number in common while the 10 shillings and 5 pounds have fully matching serial numbers. This set is number 134 of 800. Triple Anniversary Banknote Set 1994, complementing the previous set, this premium banknote set was issued in 1994. The 800 issued leather folders each contained three banknotes which were reserved from the initial printing of the paper 5 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars. Each set was individually numbered with each note having fully matching serial numbers, this set is number 134 of 800, matching the number of the set above. Presentation set of Australia's First Polymer notes 1996, Australian polymer note portfolio commemorating the world's first series of circulating polymer notes 1996, consisting of 5 dollars, 10 dollars, 20 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars, the notes in this set have matching serial numbers and bear a common prefix of '00' followed by the 2 digits '96' representing the year of issue, each note is specially overprinted with the notes first year of issue, this set is number 134 of 1000, again matching the number of the 2 sets above. Penny 1864 Crosslet 4 Peck 1664 with 239/136 scratched in the obverse field, toned UNC with traces of lustre and a few small spots. The numbers were scratched into the field during the mastership of Professor Thomas Graham (1855-1869) have been shown by G.P.Dyer to represent overall output in tons of bronze coin minted since 1860 (the higher figure) and output in tons of that particular denomination since 1860 (the lower figure) This is not the example pictured in Michael Gouby's 'The British Bronze Penny' - Specialised Edition (Page 49) but displays a superb sharp strike. A highly desirable piece of Victorian bronze coinage history, as stated by Gouby there are only 2 examples known, this, Ex-D.W.Grey 20/10/1971, Lot 111, Ex-Seaby Bulletin, September 1974, item K162, Ex-Sotheby Auction 9/10/1979 Lot 257, Ex-Michael Freeman, and one other, the other example illustrated in Gouby's book being the Ex-Norweb, Ex-A.H.F.Baldwin example, described by Spink as 'Extremely Fine and attractively patinated'. A total of 34 'scratched field' bronze coins are recorded of all dates and denominations, made up of 20 Pennies, 7 Halfpennies and 7 Farthings. Of the 20 Pennies, 12 are known to be in the British Museum Collection, this being one of the remaining 8 available to commerce. An extremely rare opportunity to bid on a piece of Victorian numismatic history. We note a standard currency 1864 Crosslet 4 Penny in UNC sold in our March 2014 auction (Lot 1844) for £3978 inclusive of buyers premium.
Shilling 1721 Roses and PlumesESC 1171, Bull 1577 (8 strings to Harp) EF the obverse with some haymarking, Ex-M.Rasmussen, our records indicate this is the first we have offered since 2003, whereas we have offered all the various overdates for this year, so probably rarer than the 'R' rating given by ESC, Cataloguer's Note, there is evidence of doubling to the 21 in the date but is quite different to examples of the published overdates we have studied, also Bull states the overdates have 7 or 9 harp strings and the Plain date coin has 8 harp strings, graded 65 by LCGS
