Penny 1862 struck on a thick flan of 11.32 grammes. Freeman notes that 1860 and 1861 coins have been recorded weighing 11.35 grammes. The coin though only in Fair grade appears struck from dies 6+G, unrecorded by Freeman, Peck, Gouby, Satin or Spink and highly unusual
Penny 1861 Freeman 28 dies 5+G Fine/Good Fine with surface marks and green patina through having been underground, rated R18 by Freeman, we note that there was no example in the Roland Harris or Andrew Wayne collections
Halfpenny 1861 Freeman 272 dies 4+F (R17) A/UNC and with some lustre, some striking weakness on the shield and a striking flaw on the portrait, we note there was no example in the Nicholson collection or the Roland Harris collection, this superior to the Andrew Wayne collection example which realised £380 hammer price in June 2006
Halfpenny 1861 appears to read HALP for HALF unlisted by Freeman or Peck, Fine with the reverse better, the finest of three examples of this rare type we have so far offered. We note that there was no example in the Nicholson collection. (a similar coin described as 'only Fair with many surface knocks and dents' sold in our June 2010 sale for £198.90 inclusive of buyers premium)
Halfpenny 1861 Freeman 274 dies 5+E LCW on rock AU/GEF and nicely toned displaying the usual striking flaw found on many specimens of Obverse 5, we note that there was no example in the Nicholson collection
Halfpenny 1861 Freeman 278 dies 7+D (R16) About VF with some surface nicks, very rare, we note that there was no example of this type in the Nicholson collection
Penny 1861 Copper Proof with bronzed finish Freeman 36 dies 6+G with last 1 in date low and double-cut, a few minor handling marks and a couple of tiny surface nicks otherwise FDC
Penny 1861 Satin 28, Gouby BP 1861G as Freeman dies 4+D with central cut fishtail, this obverse rarely found on the 1861 coins, lists at £750 VF in Satin with no prices quoted for higher grades, this example is NVF/GVF. Satin census report states only three examples recorded up to 2001, with finest listed as Good Fine, we speculate that this may be the finest example currently known. We also note that the example in the Laurie Bamfordcollection June 2006 was listed as Fine and realised £350 hammer price
Halfpenny 1861 Freeman 275 dies 5+G (R16) approaching UNC with a pleasing tone one or two small surface marks hardly detract. We note there was no example of this type in the Nicholson collection. Ex-Andrew Wayne collection London Coin Auction A113 June 2006 lot 1052
Halfpenny 1861 Freeman 270 dies 4+E (R14) LCW on rock A/UNC with a slight weakness of strike in the centre of the shield, Ex-Andrew Wayne collection London Coin Auction A113 June 2006 Lot 1049 hammer price £110
Halfpenny 1861 Freeman 278 dies 7+D (Rarity 16) About VF with some surface nicks, very rare, we note that there was no example of this type in the Nicholson collection
Penny 1861 Freeman 21 Dies 3+D EF with traces of lustre, some surface and carbon marks and a small spot in front of Britannia. Rated R18 by Freeman and superior to the example in the Laurie Bamford sale and probably the finest surviving specimen 20/6/2006 (Lot 30)
