AngelElizabeth I First type with wire line inner circles S.2513 mintmark Lis, 5.21 grammes, EF struck on a slightly irregularly shaped flan as often encountered, a few minor contact marks and an edge nick by the B of HIB otherwise practically 'as struck' with very little real wear, compares favourably with the Spink plate coin. The First issue with wire line inner circles type a rare and desirable type and seldom offered in any grade. Catalogues at £7500 VF in Spink this considerably superior to VF

Pound Elizabeth I sixth issue S.2534, N 2008 (North 3rd issue), but with Lion at the end of the legend as Schneider 797, die axis alignment 100 degrees, weight 10.98 grammes, this Tun and Lion variety was the first type of Pound struck between June 1593 and May 1594 and it is believed that only 12 specimens exist, the obverse Good Fine, with some weakness to the back of the head, the reverse extremely well struck, on a full round flan and very desirable. We note a Prooflike GEF/UNC example sold in our June 2015 auction and realised £28,000 hammer price, this piece is Ex LCA 153 Lot 1968 when it realised £10,000 hammer price

PoundElizabeth I sixth issue S.2534, N 2008 (North 3rd issue), but with Lion at the end of the legend Schneider 797 choice GEF/UNC the reverse almost prooflike sharp and crisply struck all round, this coin is so pleasing it has the quality of a milled rather than a hammered coin perhaps the best hammered coin we have seen, in addition an extremely rare variety. This Tun and Lion variety was the first type of Pound struck between June 1593 and May 1594 and it is believed that only 12 specimens exist, the fact that this is the initial issue of this Pound type perhaps explains the care that has clearly gone into the striking

Choice EF examples of this type can realise into five figures see lot 605 LCA auction 115 March 2006 pictured on London Coins highlights page which realised £11,000.

CrownElizabeth I mint mark 1 bold VF drapery particularly sharp, some stress lines as often, the reverse has a small TB stamped in the fourth angle which does not encroach noticeably on the design in the style of Tudor letters so presumed contemporary, this slight distraction is more than compensated by the price estimate without these marks this would very likely be a £4,000-£6,000 item
CrownElizabeth IS.2582 mint mark 1 near EF with the Queen's drapery particularly sharp, bold and even all round with an even tone a few small surface marks obverse hardly detract, not far short in overall appeal to Lot 608 in our December 2006 sale (Auction 115) which realised £11,000 hammer price, rare and desirable thus
