Thorne & Sons was established in 1831 by Robert Thorne and was described in Harper's Directory as 'Whisky Distillers Blenders and Warehouse-keepers' based in Greenock where the company had it's main premises. The company was incorporated in 1892 and later expanded, acquiring two distilleries and a three-storey Italian Renaissance style office block was constructed in Greenock, along with a multi-storey warehouse block which still stands today.

NavalLong Service and Good Conduct Medal, George V, type B with non-swivelling bar, awarded to M,13536 H.R.B. Hooper E.R.A 1, H.M.S. Malaya GVF with some scratches and hairlines, comes with copy of service record showing all the ships on which he served from May 1915 to December 1928. HMS Malaya served in Rear-Admiral Hugh Evan-Thomas's 5th Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet, and took part in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916.

Turkey - The OttomanWar Medal AH1333 (1915) Gallipoli Star five-pointed red painted star with ball-tipped finials, Toughra of Sultan Mehmet Reshad V all within an upwards facing silvered crescent, the reverse with horizontal pin, No makers name. GF with some of the paint chipped. The medal was instituted by the Sultan Mehmet Reshad V on March 1st 1915 for gallantry in battle.

World War I, 1914 Star, with 5th Aug. - 22nd Nov. 1914 'Mons' clasp, awarded to 2395 Pte. F.A. Farmer 9/Lond:R , EF with some discolouration to the reverse. Private Frank Arthur Farmer was killed in action on May 1st 1915, aged 29, and is buried at Bolougne Eastern Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. His Brother Leonard Arley Farmer was also killed in action.

Coronation of Edward VII 1902 31mm diameter in silver, The Official Royal Mint issue, by G.W. de Saulles, Eimer 1871, BHM 3737, 12.69 grammes, UNC or very near so with some contact marks, in a red box with 'Mansion House', CORONATION YEAR 1902. Right Hon.Sir. J.C. Dimsdale, Bart., M.P., Lord Mayor' in gold lettering on the lid. J.C. Dimsdale was knighted in 1894, in commemoration of the opening of Tower Bridge. He was Lord Mayor of London at the time of the Coronation, and in 1902 he carried the Crystal Sceptre of the City of London in front of King Edward VII at his Coronation. The 1902 Coronation Honours list was released on the intended coronation day on 26 June 1902, and announced that Dimsdale would receive a baronetcy. He was created Baronet, of Goldsmiths, Langdon Hills, in the County of Essex and of Lancaster Street in the Borough of Paddington in the County of London. In June 1902 he received the 2nd class of the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun from Prince Komatsu Akihito, who was received formally at Mansion House as part of his visit to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation. An interesting piece of Royalty-related history.
