02/06/2024 Auction 185	Medals	Lot 1300	Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee 1977 57mm diameter in silver by L.Durbin, Reverse: the Hybrid-Tea 'Silver Jubilee Rose' Eimer 2136 UNC toned, in the box of issue with certificate, the box inscribed 'In Commemoration of the Queen's Award For Export Achievement to London American Finance Corporation Limited, The box interior with inscription plate: PRESENTED TO THE RIGHT HON. LORD ARMSTRONG OF SANDERSTEAD PC GCB MVO. Lord Armstrong (William Armstrong, Baron Armstrong of Sanderstead). Armstrong was private secretary to the Secretary of the War Cabinet Sir Edward Bridges from 1943 to 1945. Between 1949 and 1953 he was principal private secretary to three successive Chancellors of the Exchequer: Sir Stafford Cripps, Hugh Gaitskell and R.A.Butler. In 1962 he became Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, and in 1968 he became Head of the Home Civil Service. Due to his influence in Edward Heath's government he was dubbed 'The Deputy Prime Minister'.
