Knights L.L.625-C 514 Squadron based at Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, killed 24th March 1944 on return from raid on Berlin. Mission consisted of 577 Lancasters, 216 Halifaxes and 18 Mosquitos. 44 Lancasters were lost in the raid. One of the crew members, Ron McAllister survived as a prisoner of war.

Electoral Medal 1818 47mm diameter in White Metal, unsigned, Obverse: A vase with an eagle on the lid, two females holding a wreath with 1055 within. Reverse: A similar vase except that two females hold a scroll on which COOKE/&/INDE-/PEN-/DENCE/1818 BHM 972 (RR), 48.05 grammes, NEF and unusual. In 1818 Colonel Cooke unsuccessfully contested the seat for the city of York. He polled 1055 votes and the following November was presented with a cup valued at 150 Guineas, undoubtedly that which is represented on this medal. His obituary appears in the Gentleman's magazine in 1852. An interesting piece of political history.

The collection was formed by Nathan Dunn a Philadelphia-born China Trade merchant, and was first exhibited in the city in 1839. A report of the exhibition states: 'What increases the interest of the scene is a young Chinese, in full costume, who walks around the hall in full costume explaining the exhibits to the visitors in a most amiable manner that shows he is gratified in being useful'. No doubt this is Chun Ah-You, who accompanied the exhibition to London in 1841. The exhibition was initially exhibited in Hyde Park in a special pagoda, and was open to the public from April to June 1842. After some repairs to the lanterns which were now lit by gas, the exhibition re-opened in November 1843 until the end of the year. The collection then returned to the United States following Dunn's death in 1844, and later returned to England again in 1851 for the Great Exhibition. On 10 December 1851 Christie's auctioned 'The Celebrated Assemblage...collected by the late Nathan Dunn'

Army of India Medal, reverse short hyphen type, officially impressed naming, with Bhurtpoor clasp, awarded to Ensign T.G. Dundas 15th N.I. EF with some hairlines and some rub to the portrait. Thomas Graham Dundas arrived in Calcutta on October 4th 1825, and was entitled to Bhurtpoor prize money of 2381 Rupees (£238 sterling) which he did not claim in India. Transferred as Lieutenant to 4th Extra Regiment (became 72nd N.I) from 19th Oct.1826, after his marriage in 1832 to Margaret Maria Louisa, 3rd daughter of Edward Swift Broughton. After a period of furlough, from 10th September 1833, he failed to report for his return and subsequently resigned his commission on 3rd Feb. 1835.

Italy - Tuscany, Order of St. Joseph, Knight's Star in gold and enamel, 58mm x 38mm , gross weight 13.77 grammes, a six-armed cross, with ball finials with red-enamelled gold rays between each quadrant. Obverse: A figure of St. Joseph with UBIQUE SIMILITUS in a red enamelled border, Reverse: withy the inscription S J F 1807, NEF with some of the red enamel missing from the top of the medal below the crown suspension. The Order of Saint Joseph was instituted in 1807 by Ferdinand III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, (during his reign as Grand Duke of Wurzburg) and transformed in 1817 into a Tuscan Roman Catholic Dynastic Order. It is awarded for services towards Tuscan culture and civilisation and to the Grand Ducal Houses as a whole. The order was originally divided into civil and military categories, although these are now defunct. It is now divided into three levels: Knight's Grand Cross (30 members), Commander (60 members) and Knights (150 members). Sovereigns, Heads of State, and Princes of the Grand Ducal House and other Royal Houses, Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church and Tuscan Metropolitan Archbishops were excluded form the count. All members had to be Catholics and the number of women could not exceed fifty (excluding Princesses of the Grand Ducal and other Royal Houses, wives of Heads of State and Dames of the Order of Saint Stephen).

Awarded by Army Order November 1908. 10 awards to the EdinburghRoyal Field Artillery. The medal was awarded to NCO's and men of the Special Reserve on completion of 15 Years service and attended 15 camps. Awarded between 1908 and 1936, 428 of the Edward VII type and 650 of the George V type were produced.

YorkshireImperial Yeomanry Medal 1901-1902, type 2 reverse, awarded to 32423 Pte. J.Robinson EF and lustrous with two gentle edge bruises, Pte. Robinson joined the regiment 7/5/1901and was invalided home on 24/3/1902.He was discharged medically unfit on 15/5/1902, and it also entitled to a 5 clasp Queen's South Africa medal. The type 2 Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry medal was awarded by members of the 109th Yorkshire Hussars Company and the 111th Yorkshire Dragoons Company. It is estimated that 700 medals of this type were produced.

Electoral Medal 1818 47mm diameter in White Metal, unsigned, Obverse: A vase with an eagle on the lid, two females holding a wreath with 1055 within. Reverse: A similar vase except that two females hold a scroll on which COOKE/&/INDE-/PEN-/DENCE/1818 BHM 972 (RR), 48.05 grammes, NEF and unusual. In 1818 Colonel Cooke unsuccessfully contested the seat for the city of York. He polled 1055 votes and the following November was presented with a cup valued at 150 Guineas, undoubtedly that which is represented on this medal. His obituary appears in the Gentleman's magazine in 1852. An interesting piece of political history.

Good Fine. Cataloguer's note General Manuel Belgrano was a founding figure in the Wars of Argentinian Independence. At the battle of Tucuman, General Belgrano led the Army of the North, and defeated the Royalist Troops, led by General Pio de Tristan, who had a two-to-one advantage in numbers, thus halting the royalist advance on the North West of Argentina. This together with the Battle of Salta on 20 February 1813 allowed the Argentine troops to reaffirm the borders under their control. The cruiser ARA General Belgrano which was sunk during the Falklands War 1982 was named after him as was the earlier 1896 ARA General Belgrano, as well as Puerto Belgrano, the largest base of the Argentinian Navy. Many other small towns and departments also bear his name. These facts alone link the medal indirectly to many different historical events

Order of the Dogwood - Province of British Columbia, Canada awarded to The Rt.Hon. Sir Robert Bellinger, Lord Mayor of London 1966. 55mm diameter, 101.37 grammes of 10 carat gold, along with 18mm 10 Carat gold miniature. Obverse: The image of the Dogwood flower, Reverse: Provincial Coat of Arms. UNC, inscribed to the recipient in a presentation box, and accompanied by a 10 carat gold miniature similar in design. The predecessor to the Order of the Dogwood, called the Dogwood medallion was created by the provincial government in 1958 to mark the Centennial of the establishment of the Colony of British Columbia. In turn, the Order of the Dogwood was created by Order in Council during a provincial cabinet meeting held at Fort Langley on November 19th 1966 to mark the centennial of the union of the Colony of British Columbia with the Colony of Vancouver Island. At the conclusion of the meeting Lieutenant Governor George Pearkes (who was a future recipient of the honour) gave consent to the creation of the honour, then presented at the Douglas Day dinner that followed. The honour was then presented to the first 5 recipients:- Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Viscount Amory (Governor of the Hudson Bay Company), Sir Robert Bellinger, Clarence Wallace, and Frank Mackenzie Ross. Mackenzie and Ross were present for the ceremony. The Order of the Dogwood was the highest provincial honour until 1989, when it was replaced by the Order of British Columbia. Other recipients of the award include Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, The Princess Royal (Princess Anne), and Princess Alexandra. The last recipient was Terry Fox (Canadian Athlete, humanitarian and cancer research activist) in 1980. Only 13 people have been awarded the Order of the Dogwood, and as the award was replaced in 1989 by the Order of British Columbia, there will be no future recipients. Sir Robert was a controversial London Mayor in 1966-1967 and was a stalwart of the Nation Savings movement. His time as Mayor from 1966-1967 coincided with the HaroldWilson Government which was eager to blame the City for the nation's economic woes. Rather than confine himself to ceremonial duties, Bellinger responded firmly on the City's behalf emphasising it's contributions through invisible earnings. He protested again when the Labour Government in October 1974 decided to abolish the 10 Pence savings stamp. Although the stamps paid no interest and was costly to administer it attracted £120 million a year from schoolchildren, housewives and factory workers. Bellinger hailed it as 'the grass roots of savings activity in this country'. He was appointed one of Her Majesty's lieutenants for the City in 1976, was also a trustee for St. Paul's cathedral and Chairman of the City of London's Freemans school. Bellinger had previously been knighted in 1964 and appointed GBE in 1967 He was Gentleman Usher of the Purple Rod (a role akin to treasurer) of the Order of the British Empire, and also held decorations from Belgium, Greece, Cameroon and Denmark. In his later years, Sir Robert became a director of Arsenal Football Club and was elected life president of the club in 1997. He died in July 2002. World War II Pathfinders Distinguished Flying Cross Group of five to James Eli Foley comprising Distinguished Flying Cross, 1939-1945 Star, Air Crew Europe (France and Germany bar) Star with silver rosette, Defence Medal, British War Medal, EF to UNC, along with Flying Log Book, Sight Log Book, Airman's Pay Book, Officer's Release Book DFC box of issue, and photocopied photos in uniform and other documents. A member of 608 Pathfinder Squadron, James Foley flew 57 Pathfinder Ops and 25 non-Pathfinder Ops. 22 of which were to Berlin, and during a raid on Duisburg his Mosquito was hit by flak, losing one engine and forced to land in Brussels
Austria Medallic Show Thaler - 1683 Battle of Vienna 45mm diameter in silver, commemorating the Liberation of Vienna from Turkish siege, the defeat of the Turks and the relief of Vienna by Jahann III Sobieki of Poland. Obverse: An imperial double eagle brandishing a sword and sceptre atop a globe showing a map of Vienna. The sun rises above while crescent moon sinks below. Rev: The reverse has an 18 line legend describing how the Polish KingJohn III Sobieski, with 20,000 troops, relieved the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683 and drove them back to the Raab, and thereby freed Hungary. By leading the decisive Polish cavalry charge himself, Sobieski was acclaimed the hero of Christendom. UNC or near so and attractively toned, Cataloguers note: On researching this piece other examples were noted showing minor varieties in parts of the design, including the number of points around the sun and the date being shown as 1683 rather than MDCLXXXIII as shown here. We were able to find only three other examples all showing these minor differences, one being sold for $1600 hammer price in an internet auction.

Present at the Battle of Ginnis 30/12/1885, Died Cairo 1886, cause not listed, the second awarded to A.Jeffries Ships Corporal 1st Class H.M.S Briton. GVF. Died of Heat apoplexy aboard HMS Humber 1/8/1884, having served from 1870-1884. HMS Briton and her crew participated in the Battle for Suakin Port, February and March 1884.

Captain Oliver Gordon MVO RN First World War trio (as Lieutenant, Star to Sub-Lieutenant) and Member of the Victoria Order, World War II (4) War Medal, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star and 1939-45 star, in box of issue with original ribbons, also military epaulettes, Captain Oliver Gordon was Captain of HMS Exeter, a heavy cruiser, during World War II during which she was sunk in the Battle of the Java Sea March 1 1942. The lot includes the Book `Fight It Out` written by Captain Gordon in 1957 describing the epic encounter against overwhelming odds during the battle in 1942. He was taken Prisoner of War along with the survivors by the Japanese after the ship was sunk in the battle. The lot also includes many Christmas Greetings received by Captain Gordon during his time as a POW. Between the two World Wars he served on the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert and the lot includes photographs of Captain Gordon, some with King George V and Queen Alexandra, also letters from Buckingham Palace one signed by King George VI, a restricted letter from Mountbatten of Burma, a letter from the Imperial War Museum, photographs of crew and ships, along with a copy of a newspaper cutting reporting Captain Gordon`s death. Also included is the paperwork details and letters relating to the Companion of the Order of the Bath, though this has been retained by Captain Gordon`s family
