In 1818 Colonel Cooke unsuccessfully contested the seat for the city of . He polled 1055 votes and the following November was presented with a cup valued at 150 s, undoubtedly that which is represented on this medal. His obituary appears in the Gentleman's magazine in 1852. An interesting piece of political history.

The was formed by Nathan Dunn a -born China Trade merchant, and was first exhibited in the city in 1839. A report of the exhibition states: 'What increases the interest of the scene is a young Chinese, in full costume, who walks around the hall in full costume explaining the exhibits to the visitors in a most amiable mr that shows he is gratified in being useful'. No doubt this is Chun Ah-You, who accompanied the exhibition to in 1841. The exhibition was initially exhibited in Hyde Park in a special pagoda, and was open to the public from April to June 1842. After some repairs to the lanterns which were now lit by gas, the exhibition re-opened in November 1843 until the end of the year. The collection then returned to the following Dunn's in 1844, and later returned to again in 1851 for the . Thomas Graham Dundas arrived in on October 4th 1825, and was entitled to Bhurtpoor prize money of 2381 Rupees (£238 ) which he did not claim in India. (India Medal). Transferred as Lieutenant to 4th Extra (became 72nd N.I) from 19th Oct.1826, after his in 1832 to Margaret Maria Louisa, 3rd daughter of Edward Swift Broughton. Medals - , Order of St. Joseph, Knight's Star in gold and enamel, 58mm x 38mm , gross weight 13.77 grammes, a six-armed cross, with ball finials with red-enamelled gold rays between each quadrant. Obverse: A figure of St. Joseph with UBIQUE SIMILITUS in a red enamelled border, Reverse: withy the inscription S J F 1807, NEF with some of the red enamel missing from the top of the medal below the crown suspension. The Order of Saint Joseph was instituted in 1807 by III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, (during his reign as Grand Duke of Wurzburg) and transformed in 1817 into a Tuscan Roman Dynastic Order. It is aded for s towards Tuscan culture and civilisation and to the Grand Ducal Houses as a whole. The order was originally divided into civil and categories, although these are now defunct. It is now divided into three levels: Knight's Grand Cross (30 members), Commander (60 members) and Knights (150 members). Sovereigns, Heads of State, and Princes of the Grand Ducal House and other Houses, Cardinals of the Holy Roman and Tuscan Metropolitan Archbishops were excluded form the count. Medals Order of the Dogwood - Province of British , aded to The Rt.Hon. Sir Robert Bellinger, Lord Mayor of London 1966. 55mm diameter, 101.37 grammes of 10 carat gold, along with 18mm 10 Carat gold miniature. Obverse: The image of the Dogwood flower, Reverse: Provincial Coat of Arms. UNC, inscribed to the recipient in a presentation box, and accompanied by a 10 carat gold miniature similar in design. The predecessor to the Order of the Dogwood, called the Dogwood was created by the provincial government in 1958 to mark the Centennial of the establishment of the Colony of . In turn, the Order of the Dogwood was created by Order in Council during a provincial cabinet meeting held at Fort Langley on November 19th 1966 to mark the centennial of the union of the Colony of British Columbia with the Colony of Island. At the conclusion of the meeting Lieutenant Governor George Pearkes (who was a future recipient of the honour) gave consent to the creation of the honour, then presented at the Day dinner that followed. The honour was then presented to the first 5 recipients:- The , Viscount Amory (Governor of the Hudson Bay Company), Sir Robert Bellinger, Clarence , and Frank Mackenzie Ross. Mackenzie and Ross were present for the ceremony. The Order of the Dogwood was the highest provincial honour until 1989, when it was replaced by the Order of British Columbia. Other recipients of the award include Queen I, , The Princess (), and Princess Alexandra. The last recipient was Terry Fox (Canadian Athlete, humanitarian and cancer research activist) in 1980. Only 13 people have been awarded the Order of the Dogwood, and as the award was replaced in 1989 by the Order of British Columbia, there will be no future recipients. Sir Robert was a controversial London Mayor in 1966-1967 and was a stt of the Nation Savings movement. His time as Mayor from 1966-1967 coincided with the Government which was eager to blame the City for the nation's economic woes. Rather than confine himself to ceremonial duties, Bellinger responded firmly on the City's behalf emphasising it's contributions through invisible earnings. He protested again when the Labour Government in October 1974 decided to abolish the 10 Pence savings stamp. Although the stamps paid no interest and was costly to administer it attracted £120 million a year from schoolchildren, housewives and factory workers. Bellinger hailed it as 'the grass roots of savings activity in this country'. He was appointed one of Her Majesty's lieutenants for the City in 1976, was also a trustee for St. Paul's cathedral and Chairman of the 's Freemans school. Bellinger had previously been knighted in 1964 and appointed GBE in 1967 He was Gentleman Usher of the Purple Rod (a role akin to treasurer) of the Order of the , and also held decorations from , , and . In his later years, Sir Robert became a director of Arsenal Club and was elected life president of the club in 1997. He died in July 2002. Medals Medallic Show Thaler - 1683 of 45mm diameter in silver, commemorating the of Vienna from Turkish , the defeat of the Turks and the relief of Vienna by Jahann III Sobieki of . Obverse: An double eagle brandishing a sword and sceptre atop a globe showing a map of Vienna. The sun rises above while crescent moon sinks below. Rev: The reverse has an 18 line legend describing how the Polish II Sobieski, with 20,000 troops, relieved the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683 and drove them back to the Raab, and thereby freed . By leading the decisive Polish cavalry charge himself, Sobieski was acclaimed the hero of Christendom. UNC or near so and attractively toned, Cataloguers note: On researching this piece other examples were noted showing minor varieties in parts of the design, including the number of points around the sun and the date being shown as 1683 rather than MDCLXXXIII as shown here. We were able to find only three other examples all showing these minor differences, one being sold for $1600 hammer price in an internet auction.

Medals Captain Oliver Gordon MVO RN trio (as Lieutenant, Star to Sub-Lieutenant) and Member of the Order, (4) War Medal, , and 1939-45 star, in box of issue with original ribbons, also epaulettes, Captain Oliver Gordon was Captain of HMS , a heavy cruiser, during World War II during which she was sunk in the of the Sea March 1 1942. The lot includes the Book `Fight It Out` written by Captain Gordon in 1957 describing the epic encounter against overwhelming odds during the battle in 1942. He was taken along with the survivors by the ese after the ship was sunk in the battle. The lot also includes many Greetings received by Captain Gordon during his time as a POW. Between the two World Wars he served on the Yacht Victoria and Albert and the lot includes photographs of Captain Gordon, some with George V and Queen Alexandra, also letters from Buckingham Palace one signed by King , a restricted letter from of , a letter from the War Museum, photographs of crew and ships, along with a copy of a newspaper cutting reporting Captain Gordon`s . Also included is the paperwork details and letters relating to the Companion of the Order of the , though this has been retained by Captain Gordon`s family
