D.Sc.L.L.D.) with exhibition buildings beyond FRANCO BRITISH EXHIBITION. 69.16 grammes, Eimer 1903b, BHM 3960, UNC with matt finish, in the P. Vaughton & Sons red box of issue. Cataloguers note: The exhibition was held on a newly-prepared site at White City, West . Others to be held there and for which medals were aded, include the -British Exhibition in 1910, and the Anglo-n Exhibition in 1914. James Campbell Brown was born in . His father George Brown worked as a chemical manufacturer in London at Bow Common Alum Works. Brown was educated at the Old Aberdeen Gymnasium under Dr. Alexander Anderson, then at the Marischal College. In 1863 he joined the College of Chemistry, London. He graduated with a BSc in 1867 and received a University scholarship leading to a doctorate in 1870. He taught Chemistry at Aberdeen and then went on to lecture at the Royal Infir School of Medicine. He also taught at the School of Medicine in Liverpool. Campbell was involved in the creation of the University of Liverpool. He was also involved in water quality studies for the City of Liverpool Water Works. As a specialist also on forensic chemistry he was often called as an expert in court cases. He died in 1910, and after his his book 'History of Chemistry From The Earliest Times' was published.

Medals Captain Oliver Gordon MVO RN trio (as Lieutenant, Star to Sub-Lieutenant) and Member of the Order, (4) War Medal, , and 1939-45 star, in box of issue with original ribbons, also epaulettes, Captain Oliver Gordon was Captain of HMS , a heavy cruiser, during World War II during which she was sunk in the of the Sea March 1 1942. The lot includes the Book `Fight It Out` written by Captain Gordon in 1957 describing the epic encounter against overwhelming odds during the battle in 1942. He was taken along with the survivors by the ese after the ship was sunk in the battle. The lot also includes many Greetings received by Captain Gordon during his time as a POW. Between the two World Wars he served on the Yacht Victoria and Albert and the lot includes photographs of Captain Gordon, some with George V and Queen Alexandra, also letters from Buckingham Palace one signed by King , a restricted letter from of , a letter from the War Museum, photographs of crew and ships, along with a copy of a newspaper cutting reporting Captain Gordon`s .
