In 1991 manufacturers delivered the New Somali Shillings notes into the turmoil and disturbances of the Somali Civil War but with the Central Government no longer effective and no functioning Central Bank these notes were seized by the USC (United Somali Congress) and were used to circulate in the areas under their control, i.e. North and around Mogadiscio. Later in 2000 further unauthorized issues were imported by businessman.

South AfricaColonial Bank of Natal 5 Pounds Pick S432 dated 9th June 1862 Pietermaritzburg, Natal and a low number 058, manuscript signatures for Entered William Chapman titled Manager and 2 sets for the Board of Directors, VG and an Exceptionally Rare early note. Uniface in black and white with value wording in panel at lower left and bank title at upper centre below an illustration of a farm field with resting cow, windmill, wheat stack and the Bank's monogram in 3 bays of wool. Colony of Natal was a British colony in south-eastern Africa proclaimed as such on the 4th May 1843 after the British Government had annexed the Boer Republic of Natalia. Along with George VI portrait issues in VF - GVF (3) including 5 ShillingsPick 28a dated 1st June 1939 and the variety with all numbers and letters in the date in italic serial number N/1 04165. 10 Shillings both dated 1st June 1939 (2) comprising 2 varieties including Pick 26B with numbers and letters in date partly in italic and upright and printer's imprint at lower centre on obverse serial number K/2 87350. Along with Pick 29a date numbers and letters all in italic serial number J/2 97909. All printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co.
