Printed by Perkins, Bacon & Co. London in black & white and uniface featuring a vignette at upper centre of a seated Allegorical figure of Hibernia with crowned harp, wolfhound and wheat at left and barrels, containers and compass at right and sailing ship in distance. At the top left corner is the Bank's Coat of Arms featuring a shield with harp supported by 2 wolfhounds and a castle tower with an Irish elk
Ireland (Republic) Currency Commission Consolidated Banknote 5 Pounds The National BankPick 27 (PMI CNA2, BY E026) dated 5th January 1939 and a VERY LAST recorded prefix and higher serial number 04NK 037534 signatures Joseph Brennan & H A Russell. The note in brown on pale green and mauve underprint with the obverse featuring a ploughman (also the common name for these notes amongst collectors) with horses. The reverse displays an illustration of the St. Patrick's Bridge, Cork. Printed by TDLR without imprint. VF very Minor ink cleaning on reverse but not affecting the note's general appearance. Exceptionally Rare note with the very last recorded date and prefix with records indicating that the National Bank received its last batch of these £5 notes on the 5th November 1944 and the highest number issued was 04NK 040700 (date not known)

The takeover of Northern Bank by National Australia Bank on 30th October 1987 required a change of design to remove the Midland Bank motif therefore new designs were prepared and were printed and engraved by Thomas De La Rue & Co. London. The notes feature prominent men whose inventions in Northern Ireland contributed to the progress of various forms of transport. The new designs standarized the reverse of the notes with a dish antenna at left, a stylized N at centre and a computer at right. All about UNC - UNC. Scarce and seldom seen as a complete set.
