The takeover of Northern Bank by National Australia Bank on 30th October 1987 required a change of design to remove the Midland Bank motif therefore new designs were prepared and were printed and engraved by Thomas De La Rue & Co. London. The notes feature prominent men whose inventions in Northern Ireland contributed to the progress of various forms of transport. The new designs standarized the reverse of the notes with a dish antenna at left, a stylized N at centre and a computer at right. All about UNC - UNC. Scarce and seldom seen as a complete set. Dunlop at centre right, old automobile and bicyclist at centre on obverse and reverse dish antenna at left, stylized N at centre and computer at right.
