GermanyEmpire Reichsschuldenverwaltung REICHSKASSENSCHEIN 50 Mark Pick 6 (Ros. 8) dated 10th January 1882 series F number 0225974, original VG and Exceptionally Rare and seldom offered highest denomination for the series note. Still retaining the strong dark brown colour and featuring a winged seated allegorical figure holding a sand hourglass in one hand and the Caduceus (Staff of Hermes) - symbol of commerce and negotiation, in the other hand, farming tools and agricultural products along bottom and shield illustrating the Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) Coat of Arms. These issues now used amongst the various empire states and this the highest denomination for the series and a very high denomination for the time that could equal a regular worker's monthly wage. The small 5 Mark denominations of the same and the first series are also offered in this sale. The PMG Population Report currently shows no recorded examples and our research could find only 1 offered in recent times in the VF grade that realised 9400 Euro, so this presents a unique opportunity for any collector to acquire this very rare note with possibly very few survivors left
GermanyEmpire Reichsschuldenverwaltung REICHSKASSENSCHEIN 5 Mark Pick 1 (Ros. 1) dated 11th July 1874 Series IX. Lit. J Fol. 161 number 0801784, Fair to Good with a 4mm oblong centre hole and numerous other small holes in the main body of the note and an Exceptionally Rare early first series of the ImperialTreasury notes. Dark blue and grey-blue featuring small cherubs and the Reich Sadler (Imperial Eagle) Coat of Arms this series was issued just 3 years after the unification of various German states into the German Empire. Currency in the already economically powerful regions were dominated by state issued coins and notes mainly of Prussia (North German Confederation) and Bavaria. Even after unification, there was no large demand to unify the currency under a single issuer, as there was a set exchange rate between the coins of each currency. Each state also continued to issue their own currency, thus both supply and demand for this early series was small. It was not until a few series later, after the majority of these notes were already redeemed, when a unified currency became the most popular type in Germany. These issues remained in circulation until 30th June 1885. The PMG Population currently holds only 6 examples of this scarce small denomination note although it would be roughly a worker's daily wage as at time it would average between 1.50 and 6 marks.

Belgium World War I Emergency "Necessity Money" Notgeld & Private issues (150) a collection in an album in mixed mostly very high grades to UNC comprising 5 Centimes to 100 Francs from a variety of issuers as Aubel, Ville de Verviers, Ville de Leuze, Ville de Huy, Willebroeck, Eename, Sint Blasisus-Boekle, Commune de Bilstain, Commune de Hodimont, Commune d'Ensival, Antwerpen, Nederbrakel, Ville de Binche, Ville de Namur, Dendermonde, Comite Local de Chatelineau, Ooestende, Mechelen, Kortruk, Grand Bazar de ka Okace Sint Lambert, Norderwijck and others. Some cut canceled, some puncholed "PAYE" and a few retaining the counterfoil. Also includes a propaganda note 1000 Francs. GermanyReichsbanknote (2) including 20 Francs and 50 Francs both stamped "Centre de Rassemblement" Pick 181 and Pick 182 for type. Andre Dumont Watrschei 20 Francs with counterfoil and stamped "Annule" dated 17th May 1940. During the German occupation of Belgium during World War I there was a shortage of official coins and banknotes in circulation and as a result around 600 communes, local governments and companies issued their own unofficial currency to enable the continued functioning of the local ecnomies. The National Bank of Belgium's museum digitized it's collection which is available online. The lot is accompanied by a catalogue of these notes by Jean-Rene De Mey titled "Repertoire des Billets de Necessite Communaux Et Prives Bleges (1914 - 1919)" issued 1991
JerseyTreasury of the States 1 PoundPick 6a (BY JE6) World War II German Occupation Period note issued in April 1942 and June 1942 ND with the prefix JN only. This note bears the very LOW number of 200 and the signature H. J. Eraut titled Treasurer of the States of Jersey. The note in purple on green underprint featuring Jersey's Coat of Arms at upper left, the serial number in black and the prefix and signature embedded in the printing on obverse and the reverse illustrating Men with horse cart gathering seaweed. Thick Chain watermark. The Channel Islands have the unenviable distinction of the only British teritories to be occupied by the German Forces during the war and since change was in short supply, the Islanders issued their own currency and even used the German notes. It was not until 9th May 1945, day after Victory in Europe Day (also known as VE Day or V-E Day in North America), where freedom became reality for the Bailiwick of Jersey. UNC, pressed and Exceptionally Rare in this high grade considering the low printing of 11,000 notes. At the time of writing PMG has only 9 recorded examples on their Population Report

Marquand titled Treasurer and the note printed on white paper in blue with "2'6" in brown at centre in the underprint and the reverse featuring a blue panel at centre with the Guernsey Seal at centre, about Fine Minor Cuts/Tears. 6 Pence Pick 24 (BY GU24b) dated 1st January 1942 serial number X 0456 signature H. E. Marquand and the note printed on blue paper and in black on blue/mauve underprint featuring the Guernsey Seal at centre reverse, VF or near so. 1 Shilling Pick 29 (BY GU25b) dated 1st January 1943 serial number T 0728 signed H.E. Marquand Red overprint on Pick 26 (BY GU26) and printed on white paper in black on yellow and brown underprint on obverse and brown reverse featuring the Guernsey Seal at centre, VF - GVF. The German troops landed in Guernsey by plane on 30 June 1940, after an offensive race through France and the British government decided the islands were not strategically important and left them undefended which resulted in the start of five years of occupation. The islands were turned into an "impregnable fortress" on the express orders of Adolf Hitler and a fifth of all the defence works in the Atlantic Wall were built on the Chanel islands. World War II Occupation Savings Bank of The Province of Ljubliana (Laibach) 1000 Lire Pick R9 dated 14th September 1944 series A number 055228 in deep purple on brown and pale blue underprint featuring a portrait of a Woman wearing a National costume hat at left and The Slovene Home Guard Coat of Arms represented by a Crowned eagle with a checkered crescent on its chest. The Slovene Home Guard was an anti-Partisan military organization that was active during the 1943-1945 German occupation of the formerly Italian-occupied Province of Ljubliana. It consisted of former Village Sentries part of Italian-sponsored Anti-Communist Volunteer Militia re-organized under Nazi command after the Italian Armistice 3rd September 1943. Combined with other 2 "Home Guard" units they were formed exclusively of ethnic Slovenes which at their peak had a combined membership of around 21000 men, 15000 of which were in the Ljubliana Province. The note with black text and purple frame on green underprint and reverse with black text and green frame on red underprint.
