World (10) an interesting and very collectible group of notes in various grades mostly GVF - EF to about UNC - UNC and comprising a Scarce Russian Civil War East Siberia -Chita 100 Rubley "Sparrows" Gosudarstvenniy Bank (State Bank) - Chita branch Pick S1187b 1920 Ataman Semenov's money issued by the Government of the Russian Eastern Border Regions, variety with cubes in frame on reverse. These notes were called Sparrows due to their grey paper and were printed later in blue reason being, whatever ink was available that is what was used to print. The fate of the “sparrows” was a foregone conclusion: even when released, their cost was 2 times lower than that of Kolchak’s “Siberian squirrels”. And by the end of 1920, their value was striving for zero. Also, a very attractive and very well-preserved selection of USA Obsolete Currency of various issuers and denominations (5) comprising a Bank of New-England at Goodspeed's Landing East Haddam, Connecticut2 Dollars unissued remainder circa 1800's. The Bank of Macomb County, Mt. Clements, State of Michigan10 Dollars Unissued Remainder dated 1st April 1858. The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Company 20 Dollars 9th November 1840 No. 372B. The Canal Bank New Orleans 20 dollars series D Unissued remainder circa 1800's. And The State of Georgia, Milledgeville 100 Dollars dated 1st February 1863 series A No. 11384 with 2 manuscript signatures and a black Treasury of Georgia seal on reverse dated 1864, a nice and even original cut. Also known as a C-note with a portrait of war time Governor Joe Brown, who contemplated the idea of Georgia succeeding from the Confederacy. Bermuda Government 1952-1966 young H.M. Queen Elizabeth II portrait and the last of the Pound system issues (3) all in original fresh and crisp GVF comprising 5 Shillings Pick 18b dated 1st May 1957 serial number Y/1 289604 in brown on multicolour featuring illustration of Hamilton harbour. 10 Shillings Pick 19c dated 1st October 1966 serial number V/1 975700 in red on multicolour underprint featuring Gates Fort, St. George's illustration. 1 Pound Pick 20d dated 1st October 1966 serial number V/2 330792 in blue on multicolour underprint featuring an illustration of Somerset Bridge at left, the world's smallest operating drawbridge. An interesting 2 portrait styles issue where the lower denominations only feature an uncrowned profile portrait whilst the 1 Pound and higher feature a crowned 3/4 facing portrait of H.M. the Queen. The reverses all feature the denomination and a large United Kingdom Royal Coat of Arms at centre. A very attractive and rarely seen group from circulation, printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ld. New Malden, Surrey, England imprinted in small script at lower centre on obverse only for the 10 Shillings and 1 Pound, while on the 5 Shillings on both sides lower centre
India Government of India 1 RupeePick 14a 1935 serial number 10A 989490 watermark KingGeorge V portrait signature J.W. Kelly titled Controller of the Currency. Green-blue obverse featuring Coin depicting King George V at right and reverse with the serial number and a design featuring the Royal Cypher with a crown and 1 rupee coin dated 1935. This note printed in England and this issue could not be introduced at the time due to the death King George V in January 1936 and it was only accepted to circulate these notes at par with the metallic silver rupee folowing the outbreak of the Second World War and the ensuing commodity scarcity around Silver i.e. this being a unique issuing where notes were released after the death of a monarch and also the only note to feature the serial number on the reverse. VF with a usual spindle hole
