Redemption signature with hand stamped B.G. Lennon & Co., Ltd. with title Managing Director. The reverse with a PAID hand stamp from General Post Office, Cape Town and a red post stamp for 1 Penny from Cape of Good Hopecancelled with the same hand stamp as redemption Port Elizabeth dated 1st October 1898. Uniface in green and printed on watermarked paper with watermark reading Oranje Vrij Staat / Post Noot. An interesting fact is that B. G. Lennon & Co., Ltd were a chemist and druggist business in Port Elizabeth established in 1850 by Barry Grey Lennon, an Irish chemist and nephew of the Governor of Cape of Good Hope - Sir George Grey. Their shops were to be found in most major towns in Cape Province, Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal. In 1894 they became the first commercial pharmacy in Bulawayo and on 29th December 1898, Lennon Limited became a registered company. By 1930 the company had become the largest pharmaceutical business in the southern hemisphere and in the decades to follow Lennon Ltd was amalgamated by the South African Druggists group in an consolidation effort, then in 1968 South African Druggist joined the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and in 1999 it was acquired by Aspen in 1999 through a hostile takeover worth 2.4 million Rand which operates to this day and is the largest drug company in Africa.

IraqNational Bank Seventh issue 5 Dinars Pick 40b Law of 1947 (1955) signature Abdul Ilah Hafiudh serial number F011834 and variety with small head watermark, GVF - EF pressed Exceptionally Rare and widely collected. In red on multicolour featuring the popular thick lips portrait of King Faisal II as an adolescent at right obverse. The reverse depicting an ancient carving illustrating Hamurabiy yatasallam al-sharia (King Hammurabi receives the Law), Hammurabi (at left) is in conversation with the sun god Shamash. Hammurabi was the King of Babylon between 1792 and 1750 BC and, although not one of the greatest of the Babylonian kings, he is known because of this stele which contains the code of laws. The illustration is adapted from the famous diorite stele, discovered in 1901-02, which contains the laws of Hammurabi . Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. This note is a fine example of the last issue for the National Bank before it became Central Bank of Iraq. The Iraqi revolution of 1958 lead to monumental change in the rule and administration of Iraq which lead to significant changes in the banknotes circulating in Iraq. Although the Bank's title changed in July 1956 during the last years before the monarchy was overthrown in 1958, the Central Bank's first issued notes were released into circulation on 5th February 1959 (for a full story see ‘The First Bank Notes of Republican Iraq’ in IBNS Journal Volume 44 Number 4).

The last of its design type this issue redesigned in the same colours as its predecessor in blue on red and yellow underprint now featuring the Bank's Coat of Arms on obverse instead of the Royal Arms, along with a portrait of Henry Schomberg Kerr (9th Marquess of Lothian), a port scene with ships and a view of Edinburgh castle on obverse. The reverse featuring a large panel with guilloche patterns and a view of Edinburgh city. A large sized note printed by Water low & Sons Limited certain to attract much attention with this last date of issue.

The note in green and multicolour with the obverse displaying the Bank's Coat of Arms at lower left with thistle plants above and the reverse features an illustration of the Forth Railway bridge near Edinburgh - considered as a symbol of Scotland and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a note from the very last and very short-lived issue for the bank as the merger between the National and Commercial banks took place in 1959 resulting in all outstanding notes being withdrawn therefore it makes it scarce and seldom seen especially in this high grade. Andre Dumont Watrschei 20 Francs with counterfoil and stamped "Annule" dated 17th May 1940. During the German occupation of Belgium during World War I there was a shortage of official coins and banknotes in circulation and as a result around 600 communes, local governments and companies issued their own unofficial currency to enable the continued functioning of the local ecnomies. The National Bank of Belgium's museum digitized it's collection which is available online. Turkey (3) comprising 50 Kurus (2) Pick 133 L. 1930 President Mustafa İsmet İnönü at right & Community Center, Ankara series B25 386933 EF or better slight wrinkling considered from water damage given its history along with the later note which got issued after the bombing Pick 134 President Mustafa İsmet İnönü at centre & Central Bank building Ankara series C2 090520. Also the 100 Lira Pick NL unrecorded L.1930 President Mustafa İsmet İnönü at right & Dardanelles view at reverse series H19 02888 Fine - about VF small piece missing from bottom right corner, a small tear at upper centre at fold and a small light rust mark to left but very well kept and an Exceptionally Scarce notes as our research could find that this issue was on a ship (SS City of Roubaix) bombed by Germany while at Piraeus Harbour (Greece) April 6, 1941 near the beginning of WWII. The Turkish government cancelled the issue and arranged for another instead. All available examples were rescued from the sea therefore signs of salt water damage are to be expected. "There is no official recovery record of the 100 Lira notes from the wreck. They were not handed over by the Greek authorities to the Republic of Turkey like the 50 Kurus notes. It is believed the notes that escaped confiscation were also introduced by Greek and non-Muslim tradesmen and put into circulation in the smaller provinces of Turkey, where communications were poor. The variety of notes confused the public, who were not in a position to tell if the notes were legitimate or not. What is certain is these original notes are extremely rare. Only two pieces were reportedly seen in Turkey in the last few decades. The same is true for the 50 Lira note (P136). Not more than a couple has ever been reported. Although also very hard to acquire, Thomas De La Ruespecimen notes remain the best bet for filling this historic gap in a bank note collection of Turkish Republic issues."
