The note in purple on multicolour underprint featuring Kiwi bird at left, Coat of Arms at upper centre and MaoriKing Tawhiao at right on obverse and Milford Sound fiord and Mitre Peak at centre reverse. Fine and a very rare note given that it is the first issue to be released in New Zealand by Reserve Bank of New Zealand on 1 August 1934 as the sole issuer by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act 1933, as until then private trading banks were the currency issuers. The discovery of gold in 1861 encouraged competing banks in New Zealand leading to a variety notes issues. By 1924, public demand for convenience in usage led to the six remaining banks agreeing a "Uniform" standard size and colour for each denomination.
