Canada The Bank of Upper Canada, York (Toronto) 10 DollarsPick S2037 (Charlton Unlisted) dated 1st January 1861 Number 43552, a manuscript signature at lower centre right and with no observable overprint, in a PMG holder graded VF 20 this is a fabulous example of this Exceptionally Rare note. A collaboration of engraving by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York on plate patented 30th June 1857 and printed by the American Bank Note Company is the result of this fabulous note in black on green underprint featuring a young portrait of Queen Victoria at lower left, seated Britannia with trident and shield with the crest of Upper Canada at right, and at upper centre 2 Allegorical female figures symbolizing Upper and Lower Canada, which united in 1841, and a Lion and a Unicorn, possibly representing Great Britain, and 3 crests in the middle. The 3 crests as follows - lower left and right depict the arms of the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada and the top - surmounted by a crown, shows the badge of The Order of the Garter, a clear reference to the monarchy. Below the whole allegory is a plinth carrying the words "VICT...TTANNIARM RE DEF"-Victoria, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith. The reverse with an ornate panel and value at centre. An excellent example from one of the first Canadian Banks to issue their own banknotes following the success and the provided model of the Bank of Montreal, the very first Bank to issue any banknotes in Canada just following its establishment in 1817, and which in turn was itself following the model of the First Bank of the United States established in 1791 by Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. secretary of the Treasury. Also, one of the most influential early banks which ended up in a "Bang" in 1866 after having setup close relationships with the government from the moment of its establishment. The first significant bank failure in Canadian history, with its shareholders losing all their capital, which at a time had amounted up to over three million dollars and the government losing another million dollars. Banknotes at the time represented the principal liability of a bank and were redeemable in specie, upon demand. The issue of banknotes was well received by the public and became the principal means of payment along with the fact that they helped mitigate the problems that were associated with having a vast range of foreign coins circulating with different ratings. This note is a bit of an outlier as although featuring Royal portraits and images to relate to Great Britain, the Bank chose to use dollars as their denomination in contrast to others circulating in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland that were typically denominated in Pounds, Shillings, and Pence. Online research could not find any of this denomination offered in recent times, with only a few of the lower denominations in similar grades that were so keenly sought after they ended up in the 4 figure range, and the only example that occured is currently in the collection of the Bank of Canada Museum and these early issues are very unlikely to be seen in much higher grades, infect the current SCWPM prices them only up to the VF grade. Such an early Rarity, especially in issued format, is certainly a 'tasty' find for any serious collector and will most certainly serve as an absolute treasure in their collection. According to an official publication of the Canadian Paper Money Society Journal Volume 50, Number 143 of December 2014 this denomination was ordered May 1861 in Sheet Numbers 34001 - 44000 and October 1861 in Sheet Numbers 44001 - 49000 and was in a total of only 60000 notes

Hong Kong The Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China10 DollarsPick 55a (Mars Illustrated Catalogue of Hong Kong Currency S12, KNB34a) and a very FIRST date for this type 1st July 1931 with 1 printed & 1 hand signed signature serial number T/G 029439, original GVF - about EF and an Exceptionally Rare note especially in this high grade for this very first date of issue. The note in black and red on light red and green underprint featuring a portrait of a helmeted warrior at left and the Royal Coat of Arms at centre on obverse. The reverse with an illustration of rice field farmers at work and pagoda building. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited London and watermarked with a helmeted warrior same as on obverse facing left. A very tough to acquire seldom offered example of this early first date for this type and perhaps one of the very few high-grade examples seen if not the highest. According to our research no examples of this date have been offered in grades above VF in fact the PMG Population report indicates only 32 recorded examples of this type at the time of writing with none above Choice VF 35 with the majority between VF20 and VF30, the only 1 highest graded being Choice VF35 EPQ. According to the story this note had been hiding away in a big and old late 1800's book in the possession and gifted to the owner's family from the time of their grandfather and his sister (grandmother). They were based in Chatham and the grandfather was working for the Navy at the time, serving regular tours to China, Hong Kong and general Asia and the grandfather's sister lived in Hong Kong with her husband who unfortunately passed away in one of Hong Kong's major earthquakes after which she returned to the UK. It is uncertain which of the two was the book containing this note gifted to and who had brought it back, but it is certain that this note is a fabulous and Rare find

Qatar & Dubai Currency Board 50 Riyals Pick 5a ND (circa 1960's) serial number A/1 735283. The note in red on multicoloured underprint Dhow, derrick, and palm tree at left on obverse and denomination at centre on a guilloche panel and issuer across the top on reverse, watermarked Falcon's head and bearing the signature Khalifa bin Hamad al-Thani. In a PMG holder and graded Very Fine 25 Annotations. One of the rarest denominations for the short-lived currency union of Qatar & Dubai being perceived to be just as Rare as the 25 Riyals, this note will make a fascinating addition to any serious collection. While the use of 1, 5, 10 and 100 Riyals proved popular and numbers increased in circulation over the years after the initial release, the 25 and 50 Riyals however decreased and with the initial issued figures being significantly lower than the other denominations not a lot of examples must have survived over the years.

Australia Presentation sets (3), The 25th Anniversary Banknote Set 1991, one of the most spectacular presentations ever issued, this leather bound 8 note set was produced to mark the anniversary of the introduction of decimal currency on February 14th 1966. The notes came from the archives at Note Printing Australia (NPA) and consisted of the last 800 10 shilling, 1 pound, 5 pounds and 10 pounds issues coupled with the first issue of the 1 dollar, 2 dollars, 10 dollars and 20 dollars notes. All the notes have the last 3 digits of the serial number in common while the 10 shillings and 5 pounds have fully matching serial numbers. This set is number 134 of 800. Triple Anniversary Banknote Set 1994, complementing the previous set, this premium banknote set was issued in 1994. The 800 issued leather folders each contained three banknotes which were reserved from the initial printing of the paper 5 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars. Each set was individually numbered with each note having fully matching serial numbers, this set is number 134 of 800, matching the number of the set above. Presentation set of Australia's First Polymer notes 1996, Australian polymer note portfolio commemorating the world's first series of circulating polymer notes 1996, consisting of 5 dollars, 10 dollars, 20 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars, the notes in this set have matching serial numbers and bear a common prefix of '00' followed by the 2 digits '96' representing the year of issue, each note is specially overprinted with the notes first year of issue, this set is number 134 of 1000, again matching the number of the 2 sets above. GermanyEmpire Reichsschuldenverwaltung REICHSKASSENSCHEIN 50 Mark Pick 6 (Ros. 8) dated 10th January 1882 series F number 0225974, original VG and Exceptionally Rare and seldom offered highest denomination for the series note. Still retaining the strong dark brown colour and featuring a winged seated allegorical figure holding a sand hourglass in one hand and the Caduceus (Staff of Hermes) - symbol of commerce and negotiation, in the other hand, farming tools and agricultural products along bottom and shield illustrating the Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) Coat of Arms. These issues now used amongst the various empire states and this the highest denomination for the series and a very high denomination for the time that could equal a regular worker's monthly wage. The small 5 Mark denominations of the same and the first series are also offered in this sale. The PMG Population Report currently shows no recorded examples and our research could find only 1 offered in recent times in the VF grade that realised 9400 Euro, so this presents a unique opportunity for any collector to acquire this very rare note with possibly very few survivors left

Bermuda Government British Administration 1 Pound dated 2nd December 1914, serial number in red 008547, P1, PMG 25 VERY FINE. An extremely rare piece, black on green underprint with arms at left on obverse. This is the first ever 1 Pound note issued in Bermuda and the only one to be printed by the American Banknote Company, Ottawa as the following later denominations were printed by British printers, mostly Waterlow & Sons and Bradbury & Wilkinson & Co. In 1882, the local 'legal tender act' demonetized the gold doubloon, which had in effect been the real standard in Bermuda, and this left pounds, shillings, and pence as the sole legal tender. The British pound sterling then remained the official currency of Bermuda until 1970. In 1920, 5 shilling notes were introduced, followed by 10 shillings in 1927 and 5 pounds in 1941. The 5 shilling note ceased production in 1957, with 10 pound notes introduced in 1964. It was finally decided to take the action that British Honduras had already done 85 years earlier. In line with the international trend towards decimalization, Bermuda introduced a new currency in the form of a dollar that was fixed at an equal value to the US dollar. The new Bermuda dollars operated in conjunction with decimal fractional coinage, hence ending the pounds, shillings, and pence system in that colony in the year before it was ended in the United Kingdom itself. The decision to finally align with the US dollar was at least in part influenced by the devaluation of sterling in 1967 and Bermuda's increasing tendency to keep its reserves in US dollars. Although Bermuda changed to a U.S. based currency and changed the bulk of its reserves from sterling to U.S. dollars in 1970, it still nevertheless remained a member of the sterling area since at that time, the pound sterling and the US dollar had a fixed exchange rate of £1 = $2.40. The design makes it a bit of an outlier as it does not feature any royal portraits.

With the passage of the Union Bank of Burma Act 1952, the sole right of currency issued was transferred from the Burma Currency Board to a newly created Currency Department of the Union Bank of Burma with effect from 1st July 1952. The Burma Currency Board was abolished and its asset and liabilities were transferred to the Union Bank of Burma. Another important change in the new currency is the conversion to a decimal system. When the Union Bank of Burma took over the central bank’s responsibilities, a token issue of the bank notes was made on 1st July 1952. The new bank notes had the rupee denominations (1,5,10,100 rupees) that was later connected to kyat. It included peacock water mark. This set has been given to Mr. Sidney Wellington, Office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom who had been working with the UK & Burma Currency Board at the time and the set had stayed in possession of the family ever since. Comes with the contemporary brown envelope abbreviated at top left O.H.M.S (On His Majesty's Service) and the Royal Cypher G.R. of King George VI at bottom left along with a Burma Currency Board seal proof card.
