06/09/2020 Auction 170	World Banknotes	Lot 121	Africa Eastern (61) a collection in an album circa 1970's onwards mostly UNC including various issues and denominations some of which highest for the series. Comprising countries as Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Somalia including interesting 1991 Mogadishu Northern Forces issue, Somaliland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In 1991 manufacturers delivered the New Somali Shillings notes into the turmoil and disturbances of the Somali Civil War but with the Central Government no longer effective and no functioning Central Bank these notes were seized by the USC (United Somali Congress) and were used to circulate in the areas under their control, i.e. North and around Mogadiscio.
