The Reutergeld was issued 1922 by seventy German cities and municipalities. The denominations of the bills were 10, 25 and 50 Pfennig. The banknotes were printed with pictures and quotes by the Mecklenburg poet Fritz Reuter, hence the name Reutergeld. The bills were printed by the Barensprung'schen Hofdruckerei in Schwerin and distributed by the Reutergesellschaft under Reinhold Wust. Reutergeld did not serve as usual emergency money as Notgeld, but was intended as a collector's item for Notgeld money collectors . It was only sold after the expiration day.
