Canada The Bank of Upper Canada, York (Toronto) 10 DollarsPick S2037 (Charlton Unlisted) dated 1st January 1861 Number 43552, a manuscript signature at lower centre right and with no observable overprint, in a PMG holder graded VF 20 this is a fabulous example of this Exceptionally Rare note. A collaboration of engraving by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York on plate patented 30th June 1857 and printed by the American Bank Note Company is the result of this fabulous note in black on green underprint featuring a young portrait of Queen Victoria at lower left, seated Britannia with trident and shield with the crest of Upper Canada at right, and at upper centre 2 Allegorical female figures symbolizing Upper and Lower Canada, which united in 1841, and a Lion and a Unicorn, possibly representing Great Britain, and 3 crests in the middle. The 3 crests as follows - lower left and right depict the arms of the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada and the top - surmounted by a crown, shows the badge of The Order of the Garter, a clear reference to the monarchy. Below the whole allegory is a plinth carrying the words "VICT...TTANNIARM RE DEF"-Victoria, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith. The reverse with an ornate panel and value at centre. An excellent example from one of the first Canadian Banks to issue their own banknotes following the success and the provided model of the Bank of Montreal, the very first Bank to issue any banknotes in Canada just following its establishment in 1817, and which in turn was itself following the model of the First Bank of the United States established in 1791 by Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. secretary of the Treasury. Also, one of the most influential early banks which ended up in a "Bang" in 1866 after having setup close relationships with the government from the moment of its establishment. The first significant bank failure in Canadian history, with its shareholders losing all their capital, which at a time had amounted up to over three million dollars and the government losing another million dollars. Banknotes at the time represented the principal liability of a bank and were redeemable in specie, upon demand. The issue of banknotes was well received by the public and became the principal means of payment along with the fact that they helped mitigate the problems that were associated with having a vast range of foreign coins circulating with different ratings. This note is a bit of an outlier as although featuring Royal portraits and images to relate to Great Britain, the Bank chose to use dollars as their denomination in contrast to others circulating in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland that were typically denominated in Pounds, Shillings, and Pence. Online research could not find any of this denomination offered in recent times, with only a few of the lower denominations in similar grades that were so keenly sought after they ended up in the 4 figure range, and the only example that occured is currently in the collection of the Bank of Canada Museum and these early issues are very unlikely to be seen in much higher grades, infect the current SCWPM prices them only up to the VF grade. Such an early Rarity, especially in issued format, is certainly a 'tasty' find for any serious collector and will most certainly serve as an absolute treasure in their collection. According to an official publication of the Canadian Paper Money Society Journal Volume 50, Number 143 of December 2014 this denomination was ordered May 1861 in Sheet Numbers 34001 - 44000 and October 1861 in Sheet Numbers 44001 - 49000 and was in a total of only 60000 notes

IraqNational Bank Seventh issue 5 Dinars Pick 40b Law of 1947 (1955) signature Abdul Ilah Hafiudh serial number F011834 and variety with small head watermark, GVF - EF pressed Exceptionally Rare and widely collected. In red on multicolour featuring the popular thick lips portrait of King Faisal II as an adolescent at right obverse. The reverse depicting an ancient carving illustrating Hamurabiy yatasallam al-sharia (King Hammurabi receives the Law), Hammurabi (at left) is in conversation with the sun god Shamash. Hammurabi was the King of Babylon between 1792 and 1750 BC and, although not one of the greatest of the Babylonian kings, he is known because of this stele which contains the code of laws. The illustration is adapted from the famous diorite stele, discovered in 1901-02, which contains the laws of Hammurabi . Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. This note is a fine example of the last issue for the National Bank before it became Central Bank of Iraq. The Iraqi revolution of 1958 lead to monumental change in the rule and administration of Iraq which lead to significant changes in the banknotes circulating in Iraq. Although the Bank's title changed in July 1956 during the last years before the monarchy was overthrown in 1958, the Central Bank's first issued notes were released into circulation on 5th February 1959 (for a full story see ‘The First Bank Notes of Republican Iraq’ in IBNS Journal Volume 44 Number 4).
Seychelles Thomas De la Rue underprint black & white Progressive Proofs for the 1918-36 George V portrait issue 1 and 5 Rupee Plates (3) all with Printer's Annotations, Thomas De La Rue imprint, well kept and all have pinholes. Consisting of a progressive proof for the 1 Rupee with Printer's Annotations in the border frame possibly for corrections, this has a minor Inner Tear and Rust paper clip marks possibly when displayed and archived in regard to the corrections. Along with Progressive proofs for the 5 Rupees both stuck on photographic paper (2) including the initial inspected proof and annotations of 2 flaw areas in the border frame areas near lower right and upper left corners near numerical denomination values. Along with the proof after corrections have taken place pointing to the same areas. An Exceptionally Rare and interesting find, infect our research could not find any similar proof's appearing on the internet. A unique opportunity for any collector to obtain these fine proof examples of the first Seychelles own Rupee currency which was circulating with and slowly replaced the Mauritius rupee, and these issues were the only circulating currency in the form of banknotes until the first introduction of coins in 1939. Some cut canceled, some puncholed "PAYE" and a few retaining the counterfoil. Also includes a propaganda note 1000 Francs. Andre Dumont Watrschei 20 Francs with counterfoil and stamped "Annule" dated 17th May 1940. During the German occupation of Belgium during World War I there was a shortage of official coins and banknotes in circulation and as a result around 600 communes, local governments and companies issued their own unofficial currency to enable the continued functioning of the local ecnomies. The National Bank of Belgium's museum digitized it's collection which is available online. The lot is accompanied by a catalogue of these notes by Jean-Rene De Mey titled "Repertoire des Billets de Necessite Communaux Et Prives Bleges (1914 - 1919)" issued 1991

Reutergeld (208) (German Collectible Notgeld) a near complete set from all 70 places of issue in an album. Mixed grades. The Reutergeld was issued 1922 by seventy German cities and municipalities. The denominations of the bills were 10, 25 and 50 Pfennig. The banknotes were printed with pictures and quotes by the Mecklenburg poet Fritz Reuter, hence the name Reutergeld. The bills were printed by the Barensprung'schen Hofdruckerei in Schwerin and distributed by the Reutergesellschaft under Reinhold Wust. Reutergeld did not serve as usual emergency money as Notgeld, but was intended as a collector's item for Notgeld money collectors . It was only sold after the expiration day.

Australia Presentation sets (3), The 25th Anniversary Banknote Set 1991, one of the most spectacular presentations ever issued, this leather bound 8 note set was produced to mark the anniversary of the introduction of decimal currency on February 14th 1966. The notes came from the archives at Note Printing Australia (NPA) and consisted of the last 800 10 shilling, 1 pound, 5 pounds and 10 pounds issues coupled with the first issue of the 1 dollar, 2 dollars, 10 dollars and 20 dollars notes. All the notes have the last 3 digits of the serial number in common while the 10 shillings and 5 pounds have fully matching serial numbers. This set is number 134 of 800. Triple Anniversary Banknote Set 1994, complementing the previous set, this premium banknote set was issued in 1994. The 800 issued leather folders each contained three banknotes which were reserved from the initial printing of the paper 5 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars. Each set was individually numbered with each note having fully matching serial numbers, this set is number 134 of 800, matching the number of the set above. Presentation set of Australia's First Polymer notes 1996, Australian polymer note portfolio commemorating the world's first series of circulating polymer notes 1996, consisting of 5 dollars, 10 dollars, 20 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars, the notes in this set have matching serial numbers and bear a common prefix of '00' followed by the 2 digits '96' representing the year of issue, each note is specially overprinted with the notes first year of issue, this set is number 134 of 1000, again matching the number of the 2 sets above.
