(E) Joseph William Brand R.N, HMS Gossamer 1914-1915 Star, World War I War Medal, World War I Medal, 1939-1945 Star, , 1939-1945 Medal, 1939-1945 World War II Medal, and Medal, and Distinguished Service Cross, (1942), EF in presentation box, comes with photograph and copies of papers detailing the HMS Gossamer and details of the career of Joseph William Brand. The HMS Gosamer was a minesweeper of the Halcyon class. At the evacuation from Gossamer made six trips to and from that port or the beaches and brought home 3200 men. In April 1942 the Gossamer left Murmansk with two other ships of her flotilla to assist the cruiser which had been torpedoed. Gossamer rescued 440 survivors. Gossamer red in North and on June 24 1942 was sunk by a direct bomb during an air attack.

Medals Medallic Show Thaler - 1683 of 45mm diameter in silver, commemorating the of Vienna from Turkish , the defeat of the Turks and the relief of Vienna by Jahann III Sobieki of . Obverse: An double eagle brandishing a sword and sceptre atop a globe showing a map of Vienna. The sun rises above while crescent moon sinks below. Rev: The reverse has an 18 line legend describing how the Polish II Sobieski, with 20,000 troops, relieved the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683 and drove them back to the Raab, and thereby freed . By leading the decisive Polish cavalry charge himself, Sobieski was acclaimed the hero of Christendom. UNC or near so and attractively toned, Cataloguers note: On researching this piece other examples were noted showing minor varieties in parts of the design, including the number of points around the sun and the date being shown as 1683 rather than MDCLXXXIII as shown here. We were able to find only three other examples all showing these minor differences, one being sold for $1600 hammer price in an internet auction.

Pte.Roberts was killed in action in 3/9/1916 and is buried at Thiepval Memorial. Pier and Face 4A, World War I Medals (3) the first awarded to 11085 Pte.G.Jones, South Borderers, NEF.
