Penny 1874H Freeman 69 dies 6+I UNC with around 15-20% lustre, in an NGC holder and graded MS63 BN, very rare, rated R16 by Freeman, rarer in higher grades, as our archive database stretching back to 2003 shows that we have never offered this type in higher than Fine, this a superb example and would enhance any high quality Bronze Penny Collection. We note the Laurie Bamford example sold in 2006 was only graded VF
Penny 1863 Die Number 2, Freeman 45, dies 6+G (Rarity 19), Gouby BP1863C, Satin 47, pleasant Fine with some old scratches consistent with a Fine grade, this is the first example we have offered. As a relative guide to rarity, in the past we have offered one Die Number 3 and five Die Number 4 Pennies and 6 1877 narrow dates the last of which realised £5500. We also note the Laurie Bamford example of this die number 2 described as VF sold for a hefty £4000 way back in 2006 since when many coin prices have risen by multiples. There was no example in the Workman 1, Workman 2, Alderley, Crocker or Roland Harris Collections
Penny 1877 Narrow date, Freeman 90 dies 8+H (Rarity 18) one of the rarest and most sought after currency types in the entire Bun Penny series, almost always encountered in low grade, this example around Fine, and considerably superior to the example sold in London Coins Auction A129 (Lot 2034) graded LCGS 20 which realised £7020 inclusive of buyers premium. The variety beyond dispute and this example quite possibly one of the finest examples in existence, we note we have handled only 5 other examples since 2003, we also note this is superior to the example in the Laurie BamfordCollection sold in 2006 described as 'Fair', hence a rare opportunity for the advanced collector of the key varieties in this series
Penny 1860 Beaded Border Proof, 9.6 grammes, Thick rim, portrait with large 'bulging' eye, Gouby Obverse A1, Reverse a, (R of REG rotated slightly forwards, and the foot of the R does not touch the E), Reverse Shield with double raised lines, LCW below shield, no rock to left of lighthouse, die axis inverted, Gouby states 3 known, UNC with traces of lustre, in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 80, Ex-Laurie Bamford Collection, DNW 20/6/2006 Lot 168 (£1412), Ex-B.Workman collection (by exchange) this an extremely rare opportunity to obtain this type seldom seen on the market
Penny 1861 Satin 28, Gouby BP 1861G as Freeman dies 4+D with central cut fishtail, this obverse rarely found on the 1861 coins, Satin census report states only three examples recorded up to 2001, now believed to be around six known, VG or better once cleaned, now retoned, Very Rare, Ex-Spink 23/9/16, we note that the example in the Laurie Bamfordcollection June 2006 was listed as Fine and realised £350 hammer price
Pennies (2) 1866 and 1879 both imitations VG to Fine, previously part of the Laurie Bamfordcollection, who stated that he had only encountered very few copies of Bun Pennies over many years of collecting
Penny 1881 Freeman 103 dies 9+M, Gouby BP1881Ga (dies M+p) Ex-Michael Freeman collection, with his ticket, Christie's 23/10/1984 Lot 65 (part), Fair, misty in parts including around the date area, listed in the Christie's catalogue as 'perhaps with H, extremely rare' hence the listing in the 1985 Freeman book 'with H below date (?)', rated at R19 by Freeman, with only one other example previously seen by this cataloguer, extremely rare and believed to be one of only three or four known examples, we note there were no examples in the Laurie Bamford, Copthorne, Alderly or James Workman collections, probably rarer than the 1877 Narrow date coin, of which an LCGS Fine 20 example realised £7020 in our June 2010 auction
Penny 1861 Freeman 24 dies 4+F, Satin 29 (full top leaf) AU/GEF with an attractive and even chocolate tone, extremely rare in this high grade, quite possibly one of the finest, if not the finest extant, rated R17 by Freeman, Ex-Peck, Ex-Freeman, Ex-Laurie Bamford (sold with his ticket), Ex-Croydon Coin Auction 8/5/2007 hammer price £2400
Penny 1860 Toothed Border, E of PENNY over P unlisted by Freeman, Freeman dies 4+D, Satin 15, Gouby BP1860NA, (dies F+d) a couple of edge bumps, Fine, with a pleasing even appearance, considerably superior to the example offered in London Coins Auction A141 June 2013 (Lot 1940) which realised £3000 hammer price, of the highest rarity, Ex-Laurie BamfordcollectionDNW 20/6/2006 Lot 22 (realised £950 hammer price), Ex-Dr.D.Ball April 1997, we note at the time of the Laurie Bamford sale there was only one example known, (source J.Jerrams 2001) and to our knowledge only the London Coins A141 coin has shown up since, so believed to be the finest of the two known examples

Penny 1860 Toothed Border/Beaded Border muleFreeman 9 dies 2+B interestingly the horizontal bars of the F in F:D: are virtually non-existent and the vertical stroke has been re-punched. The colons after BRITT, REG and the colon between F and D are also weakly struck, Ex-Laurie Bamford (duplicate), this in contrast to the equivalent coin sold in the Laurie Bamford sale 20/6/2006 (Lot 10) which had strong stops. Penny 1882 without H Freeman 112 dies 11+N CGS EF 60 very rare thus and surely amongst the finest known, we note that the example in the Laurie BamfordCollection (June 2006) was described as 'About Fine, with the reverse better, and an example in CGS grade G 3 (good) and the only other example recorded on the CGS population report realised £1,400 last year on the E-bay, this piece was purchased for £450 in the eighties from Spinks

Penny 1863 Slender 3 in date Freeman 44 dies 6+G CGS Fine 25, rated R20 by Freeman, we note that there was no example in the Laurie Bamfordcollection, John Jerrams 'Early British Bronze Bun Pennies and Their Varieties' states in a 2001 census records only one example, a highly important key coin in the series and extremely rare, this possibly being the only known example
Penny 1863 with Die Number 3 below date Freeman 46 dies 6+G rated R19 by Freeman, VG or better with a couple of misty areas on the reverse but with the date and almost all of the legends clear. We note that the Laurie Bamford sale, where it was estimated that only three examples were known, contained an example described as Fine which realised £2760
Penny 1860 with E of PENNY clearly struck over a P Satin 15 VF for wear with light pitting across the coin, the rarity given in John Jerrams book as 'handful known' being no more than six examples thought to exist. The census of the rare varieties in this book shows that up to 2001 only one other example had been recorded, one in Good Fine condition, and another in Fine in the Laurie Bamfordcollection has since realised £950 hammer price, so this current coin thus far the finest known recorded example, a very important coin in this series
