Joaquim Arcoverde de Albuquerque Cavalcanti (January 17, 1850 – April 18, 1930) spectacular 8 ounces gold medal 1906, Arcoverde was the first Cardinal to be born in Latin America. He was known as "Cardeal Arcoverde". Only three of these medals were struck one for The Pope in The Vatican, one for Cardinal Arcoverde and this one which was given to President Rodrigues Alves President of Brazil 1902 -1906. Choice MS65 graded and encapsulated by NGC and attributed by them with the provenance of Alves. South AfricaBurgers Pond 1874 Fine Beard KM#1.2 NGC AU55, EF/GEF and extremely rare in this pleasing and high grade. This 1874 issue was South Africa's first circulating Pond (Pound or Sovereign) issue, engraved by Leonard Wyon the then Royal Mint engraver and struck by the Heaton Mint Birmingham. The coin was rejected by South African legislators who objected to the use of the portrait of Thomas Burgers the 2nd president of the Republic and the man entrusted with the design. The total issue of 695 were sold off as novelties with the vast majority becoming jewellery pieces, hence the extreme rarity of undamaged examples in this high grade. As well as South African collectors the coin fits well into any comprehensive Sovereign collection being the same weight and fineness, and in fact an example was sold in the recent Bentley Sovereign Collection at Baldwins which realised £38,000

Pound Elizabeth I sixth issue S.2534, N 2008 (North 3rd issue), but with Lion at the end of the legend as Schneider 797, die axis alignment 100 degrees, weight 10.98 grammes, this Tun and Lion variety was the first type of Pound struck between June 1593 and May 1594 and it is believed that only 12 specimens exist, the obverse Good Fine, with some weakness to the back of the head, the reverse extremely well struck, on a full round flan and very desirable. We note a Prooflike GEF/UNC example sold in our June 2015 auction and realised £28,000 hammer price, this piece is Ex LCA 153 Lot 1968 when it realised £10,000 hammer price

Penny 1882 without H Freeman 112 dies 11+N CGS EF 60 very rare thus and surely amongst the finest known, we note that the example in the Laurie BamfordCollection (June 2006) was described as 'About Fine, with the reverse better, and an example in CGS grade G 3 (good) and the only other example recorded on the CGS population report realised £1,400 last year on the E-bay, this piece was purchased for £450 in the eighties from Spinks

Sovereign 1908C (Ottawa Mint) Satin FinishS.3970 in a PCGS holder and graded SP61. One of the rarest Sovereigns in the entire series. See Notes in Marsh pages 81-83. Penny 1864 Crosslet 4 Peck 1664 with 239/136 scratched in the obverse field, toned UNC with traces of lustre and a few small spots. The numbers were scratched into the field during the mastership of Professor Thomas Graham (1855-1869) have been shown by G.P.Dyer to represent overall output in tons of bronze coin minted since 1860 (the higher figure) and output in tons of that particular denomination since 1860 (the lower figure) This is not the example pictured in Michael Gouby's 'The British Bronze Penny' - Specialised Edition (Page 49) but displays a superb sharp strike. A highly desirable piece of Victorian bronze coinage history, as stated by Gouby there are only 2 examples known, this, Ex-D.W.Grey 20/10/1971, Lot 111, Ex-Seaby Bulletin, September 1974, item K162, Ex-Sotheby Auction 9/10/1979 Lot 257, Ex-Michael Freeman, and one other, the other example illustrated in Gouby's book being the Ex-Norweb, Ex-A.H.F.Baldwin example, described by Spink as 'Extremely Fine and attractively patinated'. A total of 34 'scratched field' bronze coins are recorded of all dates and denominations, made up of 20 Pennies, 7 Halfpennies and 7 Farthings. Of the 20 Pennies, 12 are known to be in the British Museum Collection, this being one of the remaining 8 available to commerce. An extremely rare opportunity to bid on a piece of Victorian numismatic history. We note a standard currency 1864 Crosslet 4 Penny in UNC sold in our March 2014 auction (Lot 1844) for £3978 inclusive of buyers premium.
