Half Guinea 1705 Queen Anne Pre-Union with Scotland S3564 NGC MS61. An extremely rare coin the first example we have seen in any grade, the Slaney Example was sold in London in 2016 as NGC MS64 and realised £14,000, our example is only the second one NGC have graded and is fresh to the market
Five Guineas 1675 Charles II First Bust S3328E NGC AU Details REV SCRATCHED. A rare seldom offered date the last one we sold was graded NGC XF45 and realised £20,000 (the coin we are offering now is better grade overall with minor scratches reverse). NGC have only graded 5 of this type with four of those in graded AU55 or lower
Half Guinea 1713 S.3575 in an NGC holder and graded AU58+. All Queen Anne gold desirable and rare in high grades. Only the fourth example we have offered in 20 years
Guinea 1702 S.3562 Good Fine/Near VF, lightly rubbed on the Queen's jawline and with some hairlines in this area, the reverse with some thin scratches around the central rose. All Pre-Union Queen Anne Guineas are extremely rare in all grades, the Standard catalogue now values these at £2250 in Fine, and £6500 in VF. We note our archive database stretching back to 2003 shows that we have only offered two pre-Union Guineas, of which only one was 1702 (London Coins Auction A167 Lot 594) which was graded AU50 and realised £4500
Guinea 1713 S.3574 Near VF/VF with some scuffs and scratches, a small area of flattening to the obverse rim is evident, with some roughness to the edge milling in this area, however the surfaces with no obvious evidence of having been in jewellery, viewing recommended
Half Guinea 1696 Elephant and Castle, a short-lived, two-year type. S.3467, Good Fine/Near VF with some weakness in the centre, the obverse with minor scratches in the right field, the reverse enhanced by touches of violet tone. Our archive database stretching back to 2003 shows that we have offered only three previous examples.
Guinea 1695 Elephant & Castle S.3459, VG, Ex-Jewellery, an extremely rare 2-year type, with the 1696 coin stated as 'Extremely rare' by the Standard Catalogue. Our archive database stretching back 21 years reveals that this is the first example we have handled. Further research has uncovered a coin offered at Heritage Auctions in January 2024, whose description stated that their coin was the first they had handled, and that NGC had only graded one (their) example. We note also that PCGS have only graded one example, so by statistical analysis alone, proves to be rarer than the Standard Catalogue would suggest, Guinea collectors will certainly be alerted to this rare opportunity to own a coin of this type
Half Guinea 1678 8 over 7 S.3348 in an NGC holder and graded VF35, the 8 clearly struck over a 7, with the underlying downward stroke bold in the lower loop, the overstruck 8 also appears double struck, all Charles II gold difficult to find to all grades above Fine
Guinea 1696 S.3458 VG the reverse slightly better, the edge with no milling remaining, with a minor file mark on the edge suggesting possibly once in jewellery, the surfaces however are far superior to the vast majority of ex-jewellery pieces that we encounter. Our archive database records that 1696 Guineas are rare, we have only offered three examples since 2003, and none at all since June 2012
Third Guinea 1799 S.3738 VF/NVF with some contact marks, minor scratches and a scuff on the crown arch, one of the key dates in the Third Guinea series and seldom offered
Guinea 1701 Narrow Crowns. Plain Sceptres, S.3463, VG/Fine, analysis of our archive database shows that the last 10 examples we have offered were all the Ornamented Sceptres type. We have not offered a Plain Sceptres example since March 2016, so statistical numbers alone show this to be the much the scarcer of the two types
Half Guinea 1775 Third Bust S.3733 approaching Fine, the obverse with some heavier contact marks and thin scratches, by far the rarest of the three bust type for this year, an often-overlooked type, Very rare and seldom seen, the Standard Catalogue now lists at £1375 in Fine
Guinea 1713 S.3574 VG/Near Fine, with two edge nicks at the top of the reverse suggest once in jewellery, the rim with slight flattening by MAG and HIB, the surfaces superior to most ex-jewellery pieces we encounter, in a Bradford Exchange box with their certificate
Guinea 1787 S.3729 some indentations to the right reverse field, light smoothing in this area due to expert repair, Fine or slightly better with a scratch on the portrait and some edge nicks
Five Guineas 1701 Fine Work S.3456 about EF scarce thus. The impressively executed Fine Work Five Guineas was a highly important coin in the history of the milled coinage, it introduced more intricate detail and a superb sharp striking to the portrait, marking a significant advance to the quality of minting at the time, leading to further higher relief designs being produced in the 18th Century, right up to the introduction of the later machine-made milled coinage
Five Guineas 1687 Second Bust, TERTIO edge S.3397A NEF/GVF the fields showing some signs of light tooling under magnification, displays small touches of red tone, light haymarks do not detract, overall of pleasing and even appearance and considerable eye appeal
Five Guineas 1726 DECIMO TERTIO S.3626 Good VF rare thus very small area of silvered discoloration only discernible when viewed edge on, on the rim above portrait but no other evidence of being in jewellery a pleasing, collectable and rare piece with a book price now of £125,000 in EF, George I Five Guineas are seldom offered
Guinea 1713 S.3574 choice GEF the reverse better almost as struck with much original brilliance two areas of quite heavy haymarking in the Queen's hair and in one of the reverse angles are a detraction
Five Guineas 1670 VICESIMO SECVNDO edge, S.3328 Bold Fine a problem-free example, a scarce year, with few examples offered for auction in recent years, possibly scarcer than catalogue values would indicate.
Two Guineas 1684 S.3335 NVF/VF gilded, with some hairline scratches, the reverse with signs of repair in the fields below the date and on and around HIB. A rare date and seldom seen in any grade.
Two Guineas 1664 Elephant below bust, S.3334 in an NGC holder and graded VF35, a one-year issue and as such in important type coin for the early milled gold collector
Five Guineas 1684 Elephant and Castle below bust, TRICESIMO SEXTO edge, S.3332 an ex jewellery piece perhaps VF for overall wear but the fields porous and evidence of suspension mount on the rim at 12 o'clock
Guinea 1758 S.3680, GVF/About VF, Ex-Jewellery, with traces of edge mounting at 1 and 11 o'clock, the obverse with pleasing portrait retaining good overall detail
Half Guinea 1712 S.3575 NVF/VF, with pleasing red tone. Ex-London Coins Auction A131, September 2010. We note we have only offered one example since 2010 which was in low grade. Very seldom offered in any grade, a rare opportunity to acquire what is clearly a key date rarity
Half Guinea 1759 S.3685 EF with some surface marks, very scarce in high grade. We note an example offered in our A179 Auction, graded as NGC MS61 (Lot 1667, realised £1700 hammer price) displays more wear than this coin
Guinea 1689 S.3426 Later upright Harp, Fine with some surface marks, some slight smoothing on the edge indicates possible ex-mount, if however this is the case the coin has no additional damage to the surfaces, viewing recommended
Guinea 1739 Intermediate Laureate head S.3676 Nearer VF than Fine with some haymarking, particularly between the bust and GRATIA. This short lived type only issued for four years.
Guinea 1698 S.3460 VF or near so with dull surfaces and a depression on the edge at the top of the obverse, also evidence of expert work on the top edge suggesting possibly once in jewellery
Half Guinea 1779 S.3734 GVF with some contact marks, Ex-London Coins Auction A141 June 2013 Lot 1635 hammer price £400, A scarce date with only a small number of examples having come to auction anywhere since we last sold this coin in 2013
