India Government of India 1 RupeePick 14a 1935 serial number 10A 989490 watermark KingGeorge V portrait signature J.W. Kelly titled Controller of the Currency. Green-blue obverse featuring Coin depicting King George V at right and reverse with the serial number and a design featuring the Royal Cypher with a crown and 1 rupee coin dated 1935. This note printed in England and this issue could not be introduced at the time due to the death King George V in January 1936 and it was only accepted to circulate these notes at par with the metallic silver rupee folowing the outbreak of the Second World War and the ensuing commodity scarcity around Silver i.e. this being a unique issuing where notes were released after the death of a monarch and also the only note to feature the serial number on the reverse. VF with a usual spindle hole
BurmaSpecimen Set ND 1948/1949 Independence from the British transition to Republic (4) comprising 1 Rupee looks like Pick 34 unlisted series 1E 000000 Peacock at right obverse & Sailing boat reverse. 5 Rupees looks like Pick 35 unlisted series 1A 000000 Chinze at right obverse & Woman spinning wheel reverse. 10 Rupees looks like Pick 36 unlisted series 1A 000000 Peacock at right obverse & Man riding elephant lifting log reverse. 100 Rupees looks like Pick 37 unlisted series 1C 000000 Rangoon dated 1st January 1948 Peacock at centre Chinze at right obverse & Farmer and oxen on reverse. All UNC and single faint stain on each note these however not extending into design. Extremely Rare. When Burma gained independence from the British, it became a republic and the heading on the note was changed to GOVERNMENT OF THE UNION OF BURMA. As the Burma Currency Board notes increased in number, it was decided to demonetize all those India notes marked "Legal Tender in Burma Only" from 1st July 1948. This set has been given to Mr. Sidney Wellington, Office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom who had been working with the UK & Burma Currency Board at the time and the set had stayed in possession of the family ever since. Comes with the contemporary brown envelope abbreviated at top left O.H.M.S (On His Majesty's Service) and the Royal Cypher G.R. of King George VI at bottom left. Part of a diplomat's group of Burma coins and notes which was accompanied by the original Burma Currency Board Secretary's compliment slip and note to the original recipient Mr. Sidney Wellington, Office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom with this original documentation accompanying the Burma Proof Coin set listed in the coin section
