Bonds and Shares - Union Mobiliere Société Francoise De Banque Ed De Placements Cert. d 'Actions Nom. De $20 forming date 22nd February 1926 at the Consulate-General in Shanghai. Average Fine to VF, strongly folded in 3/4 places and some with small marginal nicks/tears and still presentable and fairly clean and crisp. Uniface in black, orange and brown and all issued to a Mr Edwin of with various issue dates including 160 sh on 1st July 1944 No. 1561 and 80 Shares (2) on 16th February 1935 No. 0864 and 15th October 1943 No. 1303. Issue dates and various signatures manuscript filled at bottom, embossed stamps at lower centre and lower far left. Two liquidation hand stamps at upper left on the reverses of each and manuscript signed for liquidators, the first stamp dated 25th April 1946 for 160 US Dollars and the second dated 9th January 1947 for US 80 Dollars on the 160 Shares and 80 US Dollars and 40 US Dollars for the 80 Shares. Scarce and rarely seen

Bonds and Shares , , Sir James Laing and Sons Limited Preference Share Certificate for 100 sh at £10 (shares number 101 to 200) issued 21st January 1899, Number 2, red and orange, to Sir James Laing of Thorncliffe (son of the founder Phillip Laing 1770-1854), and Ordinary Share Certificate for 100 shares at £10 (numbered 1308-1407) 21st January 1899, green and yellow, to Mr. Laing, this cross by hand 9th September 1904. Both certificates About UNC and unique items. James Laing took over the business from his father Phillip Laing in 1843 aged just 20 . The business prospered and subsequently became the first shipyard on the Wear to build iron ships, the first the 'Amity' being launched in 1853. The most famous ship, built in Dept, was the Torrens in 1875. The novelist Joseph Conrad sailed on this ship as the second mate between 1891 and 1893. James Laing went on the be knighted in 1897, the following year the was renamed Sir James Laing & Sons Ltd. Comes with copies of images the shipyard and of Phillip Laing, the founder, and of Sir James Laing. A most interesting group of great interest to enthusiasts.
