English Banknotes s Pre-war First Period Unthreaded Note B242a BIRMINGHAM branch issue dated 28th February 1938 serial number 174/V 78281, an excellent and Scarce branch issue and well preserved example approaching EF with very minor signs of wear and an original Bank's stamp on reverse at upper right corner with an inked/pencilled numeral possibly for accounting purposes. These branch issues are always Rare and very sought after and this example is very desirable bearing a date just a year before the issue of notes by the Bank's Branches was discontinued in 1939. Branches other than the main branch started issuing in 1826 and as mentioned discontinued in 1939, after which they served as just distribution centres.
