Shilling 1787 No Hearts, No Stops at date with clear trace of the 7 over 6 overdate, Near EF/GEF and lustrous with some light haymarking, a most pleasing example, scarce thus
Shilling 1798 Pattern by John Milton Obverse GEORGIVS.III.DEI.GRATIA.REX very large head with short hair, laureate, 1798 below, Reverse large plain shield crowned with British and Hanoverian shield divided into six. Plain EdgeESC 1243, which lists as R5 Unc and toned. The designer John Milton (1759 - 1805) was employed by the Royal Mint in 1798 and worked along side Lewis Pingo. This coin has the same date as the 1798 Dorrian and Magens Shilling with this Milton piece being the rarer of the two
Shilling 1904 ESC 1413, Bull 3590, Davies 1552 dies 1A, E of DEI has a long upper arm, UNC or near so with a beautiful deep and colourful tone, in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 75, we note that with over 43,000 coins now graded, LCGS records just 5 examples of this type with only one in higher grade, in comparison, in this same time 25 1905 Shillings have been graded
Shilling 1905 ESC 1414, Bull 3591 A/UNC with minor contact marks and a very small tone spot on the obverse. A very high grade example of this key date rarity, this date always keenly sought after when offered in high grades
Shilling 1908 ESC 1417, Bull 3594, UNC and lustrous, in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 78, the second finest known of 13 examples thus far recorded by the LCGS Population Report
Sixpence 1678 8 over 7, M and G of MAG both double struck, as ESC 1517, Bull 573 lists G over O or D, on this piece, the G is clearly struck over another G, GVF and nicely toned with some light haymarks and minor adjustment lines, most attractive for the grade with plenty of eye appeal
Sixpence 1697N First Bust GVLIEMVS error, ESC 1561A, Bull 1293 Good Fine on a porous flan, Excessively Rare, rated R5 by Bull (5-10 examples believed to exist) only the third example, and thus far the finest we have offered in 15 years
Sixpence 1720 20 over 17 ESC 1599, Bull 1611 EF or better and nicely toned, in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 70, the joint finest known of just 3 examples thus far recorded by the LCGS Population Report
Sixpence 1939 VIP Proof/Proof of Record ESC 1829B, Bull 4226, Davies 2192P, in a PCGS holder and graded PR66CAM, the only example thus far graded on the PCGS Population report. One further example has been graded at PF64 by NGC, so potentially the finest known example. Bull states 'not traced' and allocates a rarity rating of R6, previously sold in London Coins Auction A156 5/3/2017 Lot 2817 for £1050 hammer price, and previously in a US auction for $1057.50 in April 2013
Sovereign 1832 Second Bust, Marsh 17 UNC and lustrous the reverse with the lightest of friction to the highest points only, a superior example, Ex-Charles Wander Collection
Sovereign 1841 Marsh 24 with unbarred A's in GRATIA, an extremely rare date and type, Near VF/About VF, we note an example described as Fine sold in London Coins Auction A167 on 2/12 2019 for £6500 hammer price
Sovereign 1843 3 over inverted 2 in date, 4 in date points between two rim teeth, the reverse die show the second I in BRITANNIARUM having both top serifs. Fine, an unusual and rare type
Sovereign 1850 with a 5 struck over the 8 of the date, a recently discovered type, NVF/Good Fine and extremely rare, the overstrike extremely bold and clear. This the same variety as the coin listed in the Bentley Collection (Lot 986), where it was stated 'the cataloguer has heard of only one other specimen extant' and that the Bentley collector waited 5 years to acquire his example. We note the Bentley example, described as 'Cleaned, Good Very Fine' realised £2520 in May 2013. In the light of this, there will be few opportunities to obtain this coin for any advanced Sovereign Collection, and it may be many years before another example is offered
Sovereign 1855 WW incuse, with the second 5 over another 5, the underlying figure placed further to the right. Type as S.3852C, in an NGC holder and graded AU58, appears conservatively graded
Sovereign 1890S First legend, angled J in J.E.B, S.3868, DISH S13, EF and lustrous with some contact marks and rim nicks. Very Rare, DISH estimates that only 2% of the total mintage for this year are of this type
Sovereign 1891 Horse with short tail S.3866B, DISH L14, in an NGC holder and graded XF45, a very rare type, notes by David Iverson in his book 'The Jubilee HeadGold Sovereign 1887-1893' estimate the short tail type for this date and mint makes up less than 0.5% of the total mintage, and rates this type as R5 with only an estimated 5-10 examples believed to exist
Sovereign 1917C Marsh 225 in a PCGS holder and graded MS64, with a mintage of just 58,875 pieces, rare and desirable on this high grade, the PCGS Population Report has recorded only 2 pieces in higher grades
