A near complete denomination set, these notes were captured by the British 1st Armoured division in the Persian Gulf War. During the attack into Iraq, and the dash across Kuwait north of Kuwait city, they overran and occupied a number of Iraqi headquarters, military installations and advancing 290 kilometres they managed to destroy 3 Iraqi divisions and capturing or destroying more than 4000 Iraqi tanks and armoured vehicles along with capturing several million dollars of Iraqi currency. The seized currency was sent back to England's Ministry of Defence Cash Management Branch where they were certified and given these hand stamps.

Netherlands Indies Ministry of Finance / Javasche Bank MUNTBILJET - Small Change State Notes 1919-20 (3) a scarce early denomination set of the very first issues of these notes consisting of the very seldom seen Queen Wilhelmina portrait issues (2) both with the variety with the left signatures and title in the printing plate including the 1 GuldenPick 100a dated Batavia, 28th November 1919 serial number EW 068268, a pleasing VF - GVF. Along with the 2 1/2 GuldenPick 101a dated Batavia, 20th January 1920 serial number JK 066587, presentable aVF to VF. Both printed by the American Banknote Company and displaying that characteristic design look for their printing style of that period, very similar to their other prints as some of the Dominion of Canada issues from the early 1900's. Both notes feature a large portrait of Queen Wilhelmina at the centre obverse and the Netherlands Coat of Arms at centre reverse. The 1 Gulden with a classic black/grey look on obverse with a blue reverse, and the 2 1/2 Gulden with a dark olive-green obverse and a brown reverse. The lot also includes a 1/2 Gulden Pick 102 dated Batavia January 1920 serial number FZ 13922, VG this note of the second issues now printed locally by Topographische Inrichting, Batavia (Jakarta). These small denomination notes were authorised for issue due to the short supply of metal after World War I with denominations below 5 Gulden until a series of Exclusive Rights were brought to an end in 1922, with De Javasche Bank Act, and the bank's capital was increased by 50% to 9 million gulden which resulted in the bank being prohibited from issuing notes of less than 5 gulden, and all banknote designs were to be officially published. The same metal issue also arose later during World War 2 in the 1940's and some small denominations were issued again along with the invasion of the Japanese forces who also introduced their own Gulden Occupation currency.

Malta Government 1 PoundPick 20b ND 1940 variety with manuscript "Treasurer" title and signature of E. Cuschieri serial number A/16 032397, in a PMG holder with the superb grade Gem UNC 65 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) and Rarely seen in such high grades and a quite attractive World War II period note. Uniface print in brown and violet by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co., without imprint, featuring a bust portrait of KingGeorge VI facing left. A great survivor of the period from the Siege of Malta (1940-1942) between the defending Allied and attacking Axis forces for control over this highly strategically valued island.

Scotland The British Linen Bank Fourth Waterlow Bank's Arms 5 Pounds Pick 161b (BY SC214c; PMS BL67e) very LAST date & prefix issue of this type before the re-designed size reductions and bearing signature of A. P. Anderson dated 4th August 19559 serial number Y/11 011655, a pleasing high grade about UNC and Exceptionally Rare example, or 'Scottish UNC' as some would say due to the engrained habit of Scottish bank tellers of folding the large sized notes in order to fit them in their tills. The obverse in blue on light green and red sunburst underprint featuring Bank's Coat of Arms at upper centre surrounded by value in panels at left and right and at far left - a panel displaying Ditat and seated helmeted Athena (Pallas). The reverse in blue on light green underprint featuring an enlarged Ditat helmeted Athena (Pallas) panel at centre and numerical value panels at left and right. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London on 'granite' paper containing red and blue silk fibres as an additional security feature.
