JamaicaSix Shillings and Eightpence GR countermark, undated (1758) on Mexico City 8 Reales host coin KM#8.2, host coin 1758 Mo MM (KM#104.1), 26.66 grammes, Countermark and host coin both Fine and bold. A very rare issue, we note an example sold in London Coins Auction A126 9/6/2006 Lot 534 described as 'Fine with some surface marks and spots' realised £460 hammer price, this example considerably superior. Cataloguers Note: In 1758 the Jamaica assembly passed an act which provided that some of the new Spanish milled money should be made lagal tender and have a fixed value. £100,000 was proposed and to distinguish the re-valued coins, they were countermarked with the initials of the reigning monarch, George II. This succeeded in raising the value of the Dollar to 6 Shillings and Eight Pence. All of the new money, stamped or not also passed at this rate. Home authorities, on receiving copies of the local act, repealed it and the Governor of Jamaica was censured for exceeding his powers. Only £12,000 of coinage was countermarked and the project was abandoned in 1759.

Canada The Bank of Upper Canada, York (Toronto) 10 DollarsPick S2037 (Charlton Unlisted) dated 1st January 1861 Number 43552, a manuscript signature at lower centre right and with no observable overprint, in a PMG holder graded VF 20 this is a fabulous example of this Exceptionally Rare note. A collaboration of engraving by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York on plate patented 30th June 1857 and printed by the American Bank Note Company is the result of this fabulous note in black on green underprint featuring a young portrait of Queen Victoria at lower left, seated Britannia with trident and shield with the crest of Upper Canada at right, and at upper centre 2 Allegorical female figures symbolizing Upper and Lower Canada, which united in 1841, and a Lion and a Unicorn, possibly representing Great Britain, and 3 crests in the middle. The 3 crests as follows - lower left and right depict the arms of the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada and the top - surmounted by a crown, shows the badge of The Order of the Garter, a clear reference to the monarchy. Below the whole allegory is a plinth carrying the words "VICT...TTANNIARM RE DEF"-Victoria, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith. The reverse with an ornate panel and value at centre. An excellent example from one of the first Canadian Banks to issue their own banknotes following the success and the provided model of the Bank of Montreal, the very first Bank to issue any banknotes in Canada just following its establishment in 1817, and which in turn was itself following the model of the First Bank of the United States established in 1791 by Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. secretary of the Treasury. Also, one of the most influential early banks which ended up in a "Bang" in 1866 after having setup close relationships with the government from the moment of its establishment. The first significant bank failure in Canadian history, with its shareholders losing all their capital, which at a time had amounted up to over three million dollars and the government losing another million dollars. Banknotes at the time represented the principal liability of a bank and were redeemable in specie, upon demand. The issue of banknotes was well received by the public and became the principal means of payment along with the fact that they helped mitigate the problems that were associated with having a vast range of foreign coins circulating with different ratings. This note is a bit of an outlier as although featuring Royal portraits and images to relate to Great Britain, the Bank chose to use dollars as their denomination in contrast to others circulating in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland that were typically denominated in Pounds, Shillings, and Pence. Online research could not find any of this denomination offered in recent times, with only a few of the lower denominations in similar grades that were so keenly sought after they ended up in the 4 figure range, and the only example that occured is currently in the collection of the Bank of Canada Museum and these early issues are very unlikely to be seen in much higher grades, infect the current SCWPM prices them only up to the VF grade. Such an early Rarity, especially in issued format, is certainly a 'tasty' find for any serious collector and will most certainly serve as an absolute treasure in their collection. According to an official publication of the Canadian Paper Money Society Journal Volume 50, Number 143 of December 2014 this denomination was ordered May 1861 in Sheet Numbers 34001 - 44000 and October 1861 in Sheet Numbers 44001 - 49000 and was in a total of only 60000 notes

Ten Shillings Bradbury Third Issue T20 Red Dash in No. in serial number issue 16th December 1918 serial number B/11 078451, in a PMG holder graded about UNC 53 EPQ and a high grade and well-preserved note for its age now over a century old. These 10 Shilling notes were produced as a result of the halt in production of the earlier Second issue with black serial numbers as there were widespread complaints that they were too easily confused with the 1 Pound notes of the same period. This resulted in the serial numbers being changed to red and these the last for the Bradbury issues with recorded prefixes only in 2 letters - B and C. An excellent opportunity for any collector to add a high-grade example of these George V period issues

Ten Shillings Bradbury First Issue T10 Red De La Rue Dot in No. 5 Digit serial number issue 1914 series B/23 30179 and a scarcer type note with "P" of "POSTAGE" visible in watermark at top left above George V medallion, presentable Fine with small edge nicks and very minor pinholes to upper left, expected for the note's age. In 1914 just prior to the outbreak of World War I Lord Atterbury, Controller of H.M Stationery Office and Sir John Bradbury, the Secretary to the Treasury met at his house and they produced a design for these 10 Shillings and 1-pound notes just overnight. Due to no banknote paper available at the time except for the one in use for the White notes of Bank of England and for a rather rapid issuance of the notes simple cypher watermarked postal stamp paper was utilised. In addition to this, in order to increase the effectiveness of the productivity, a small number of notes were printed sideways at the edges of the sheets to fill the blank space resulting in another rare watermark variety known as the sideways watermark. In short, these watermark varieties are rather Rarer compared to the other notes as there would be a very limited number of them per sheet, on top of the fact that these notes are over a century old now with very few survivors seen nowadays. Therefore, this provides an exclusive window of opportunity for any collector to acquire this excellent example

Uniface large-sized note printed by lithography in 4 colour variations - 2 variations in red, 1 in olive-green and 1 in purple, this example is of the green-olive type. According to Douglas, these were produced in 1880 when the Bank embarked on a period of extensive research into methods to prevent forgery. Some changes were made to the earlier plate but there is no record of who the engraver was and no mention of these notes can be found in the Bank's records. Biafra, or Republic of Biafra, did not have a very long lived life as an independent state and its declaration of independence from Nigeria in May 1967, due to rising tensions in economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions in nature, between the various people of Nigeria, led to a Civil War that ended in January 1970 with what is believed almost 2 million Biafran civilians losing their lives (3/4 of which small children) caused by starvation in the region. The starvation was in result of the complete blockade of the Biafran region by the Nigerian Government and it led to the surrender of the Biafran Forces to the Nigerian Federal Military Government (FMG) in 1970, and the state re-joining Federal Nigeria.

York City & County Banking Company 5 Pounds Unissued Remainder circa 1830-80's No. D2693 (Outing 2456d) printed by Perkins & Bacon, London Patented Hardened Steel plates, a pleasing GVF - EF for type with some foxing and the note out of a frame with visible mounting points on the corners but not glued or similar, the frame had small plastic insert points for each corner of the note to be inserted in which protected the paper from foxing up at these spots. Being Rare and in high grade makes this note a fabulous example of the early provincial issues
Five Guineas 1669 VICESIMO PRIMO S.3328 About EF, with much fine detail apparent to the bust and the reverse design, some surface marks and scratches more than usually found on an EF coin, the edge with all lettering intact displays some consistent roughness suggests possibly an ex-shipwreck piece, and perhaps once cleaned. With low grade and/or damaged Five Guineas realising £5000-£6000 in the recent past, this being several grades above represents very good value in today's market at the low estimate, or in our opinion at several bids above. We note Spink now lists this coin in VF at £16,000 and EF at £80,000

Offered Here For Charity - Bank of England VIP tribute Twenty Pounds No. 5 note Merlyn Lowther QE II & Sir Edward Elgar B386 Series E Second Historical Series Foil Hologram & Windowed Thread issue 1999 and a First Run Low Non-circulation serial number AA01 000005, about UNC - UNC. According to Duggleby the lowest possible circulation serial number available of this Series E Historical Twenty Pounds before this offering is AA01 000031. This note from the Governor of the Bank of England in the original anti reflective museum glass frame with a note reading "From The Governor Of The / Bank of England / Note No. 5 of New Series 1999". It appears the note has not been glued in the frame and is held by precisely placed small holders with a small gap for each corner of the note to be inserted in. It has become a common tradition for the Bank of England to hold back the first printed notes with low or symbolic serial numbers when a new issue is released. Such notes are attributed to dignitaries, royalty and institutions that usually receive or were involved in the development of the new issue, for example Her Majesty the Queen traditionally receives the very first 000001 note, the Churchill War Rooms received the new Polymer Churchill 5 Pound note with the end of World War II year serial number AA01 001945, and the Winchester Cathedral received the new Polymer Jane Austen 10 Pound note with a serial number AA01 001817 marking the year that Jane Austen was buried there. A number of first run circulation serial numbers, the Bank of England is known to donate in Charity Auctions for various causes and many of these notes are very sought after by collectors and usually realise high figures as for example the very first possible circulation number of the 20 Pounds Bailey with serial number AA01 000007 realized £2,100, the first public available Churchill Polymer 5 Pounds serial number AA01 000017 realized £4,150 and the Jane Austen Polymer 10 Pounds AA01 000010 realized £7,200. In regard to this note the serial numbers prior to this one were reportedly donated as follows to H.M. the Queen, the Prime Minister, the Bank of England Governor and the Chancellor.
