Hong Kong The Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China10 DollarsPick 55a (Mars Illustrated Catalogue of Hong Kong Currency S12, KNB34a) and a very FIRST date for this type 1st July 1931 with 1 printed & 1 hand signed signature serial number T/G 029439, original GVF - about EF and an Exceptionally Rare note especially in this high grade for this very first date of issue. The note in black and red on light red and green underprint featuring a portrait of a helmeted warrior at left and the Royal Coat of Arms at centre on obverse. The reverse with an illustration of rice field farmers at work and pagoda building. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited London and watermarked with a helmeted warrior same as on obverse facing left. A very tough to acquire seldom offered example of this early first date for this type and perhaps one of the very few high-grade examples seen if not the highest. According to our research no examples of this date have been offered in grades above VF in fact the PMG Population report indicates only 32 recorded examples of this type at the time of writing with none above Choice VF 35 with the majority between VF20 and VF30, the only 1 highest graded being Choice VF35 EPQ. According to the story this note had been hiding away in a big and old late 1800's book in the possession and gifted to the owner's family from the time of their grandfather and his sister (grandmother). They were based in Chatham and the grandfather was working for the Navy at the time, serving regular tours to China, Hong Kong and general Asia and the grandfather's sister lived in Hong Kong with her husband who unfortunately passed away in one of Hong Kong's major earthquakes after which she returned to the UK. It is uncertain which of the two was the book containing this note gifted to and who had brought it back, but it is certain that this note is a fabulous and Rare find

Saudi Arabia Monetary Agency Hajj Pilgrim Receipt 1 Riyal Second issue during the reign printed of King Saud Pick 2 AH 1375 (1956) series 10 / 148081, about VF and Scarce. In red on multicolour displaying the Entrance to the Royal Khuzam Palace in Jeddah and the value of the receipt in Arabic, Malawi, Urdu, Persian, Turkish and English on obverse. The reverse brown with undertaking in the Arabic, Turkish, Malawi, Urdu and Persian languages and at the bottom is the Kingdom's Coat of Arms. These receipts used to serve in a similar way as a traveller's cheque for the Muslim Hajj Pilgrims that would usually receive it in advance of the annual Hajj and it could be exchanged in the local banks upon arrival for the predetermined amount. The Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to the holiest city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia and it is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adults who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey and can support their family during their absence. With the passage of the Union Bank of Burma Act 1952, the sole right of currency issued was transferred from the Burma Currency Board to a newly created Currency Department of the Union Bank of Burma with effect from 1st July 1952. The Burma Currency Board was abolished and its asset and liabilities were transferred to the Union Bank of Burma. Another important change in the new currency is the conversion to a decimal system. When the Union Bank of Burma took over the central bank’s responsibilities, a token issue of the bank notes was made on 1st July 1952. The new bank notes had the rupee denominations (1,5,10,100 rupees) that was later connected to kyat. It included peacock water mark. This set has been given to Mr. Sidney Wellington, Office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom who had been working with the UK & Burma Currency Board at the time and the set had stayed in possession of the family ever since. Scotland 1 Guinea The Royal Bank of Scotland First Lizars Issue dated 4th November 1826 signed James More for the Accountant and Archibald Bonar for the Cashier. Calloway and Murphy RB38. Vignette of Neptune & Britannia upper centre surmounted by crown, Pay Andrew Bogle or the bearer and an elaborate printed reverse. William Home Lizars the printer and engraver who prepared some of Scotland's finest banknote designs, was asked to engrave new £1 and 1 Guinea notes in 1825. There was already a family connection with the bank as his father Daniel Lizars had been a customer since at least 1799 and William himself had been granted a credit of £300 in 1812 'upon an obligation Sir Alex Jardine, Bart (his brother-in-law) and Charles Stewart Printer in Edinburgh being in place of one held by Daniel Lizars, Engraver here.' (his father Daniel had just died). Both the £1 and 1 Guinea notes employ a much more intricate and detailed engraving techniques possible when using harder steel plate. Lizars was at the forefront of these techniques. Both the £1 and the 1 Guinea for the first time for the Royal Bank have printed reverses. These 1 Guinea notes are the last to be issued by the Royal Bank whose minutes indicated that some 550 books at 400 notes per book were issued (= 220,000 notes). Issuance ceased in February 1830 after yet another forgery. The bank's records refer to Steel Plates No. 1 to No. 3, from which it is inferred that the original plate was re-engraved, perhaps in response to forgeries. About Fine with pinholes

Captain Oliver Gordon MVO RN First World War trio (as Lieutenant, Star to Sub-Lieutenant) and Member of the Victoria Order, World War II (4) War Medal, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star and 1939-45 star, in box of issue with original ribbons, also military epaulettes, Captain Oliver Gordon was Captain of HMS Exeter, a heavy cruiser, during World War II during which she was sunk in the Battle of the Java Sea March 1 1942. The lot includes the Book `Fight It Out` written by Captain Gordon in 1957 describing the epic encounter against overwhelming odds during the battle in 1942. He was taken Prisoner of War along with the survivors by the Japanese after the ship was sunk in the battle. The lot also includes many Christmas Greetings received by Captain Gordon during his time as a POW. Between the two World Wars he served on the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert and the lot includes photographs of Captain Gordon, some with King George V and Queen Alexandra, also letters from Buckingham Palace one signed by King George VI, a restricted letter from Mountbatten of Burma, a letter from the Imperial War Museum, photographs of crew and ships, along with a copy of a newspaper cutting reporting Captain Gordon`s death. Also included is the paperwork details and letters relating to the Companion of the Order of the Bath, though this has been retained by Captain Gordon`s family
