World Coins 1866S No Motto Breen 4929, only Good but a key rarity in the series. The 1866S No Motto coin is extremely rare in all grades. The variety's very existence depends on a quirk of timing. The Act of March 3, 1866 stated that all silver and gold coins minted after Jan 1 1866 large enough to carry the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' had to carry it. The obverse dies reached before the end of 1865, but the reverses did not follow until May 1866. In the meantime San Francisco authorities made 60,000 Half Dollars using left over reverses without the motto. Of these at most a few hundred survive in all grades, ma this an extremely rare piece.

The NGC Top Population coin, and the example across three major grading companies. At the time of writing, our research has uncovered 11 examples graded by third party grading companies, some entries which may be duplicated. LCGS has graded 4 examples, in grades 82, 88 (2) and 90. PCGS has graded 3 examples, all SP65, and NGC has graded 4 examples SP62, SP64 (2) and this superb SP67 example. Tokens Ireland Token 1800 or 1822 34mm diameter, 14.19 grammes Obverse : Bust George III right, laureate and draped, ONE PENNY TOKEN. Reverse : Hibernia seated right holding a sprig of shamrock, the 00 of the date slanted to the right. IRELAND. The lower part of the date is worn, and examination of archive pictures of a similar piece suggest this may be 1822. Edge slant-milled with raised centre line. Die Axis inverted. Davis 37 Struck from very worn dies, causing much of the legend to be missing, the detail that remains around Fine. Listed as RRR by Withers and as R by Davis. Cataloguer's Note: Davis states that this is a forgery of the time, as Hibernia is seated to the right. This can be no doubt that these pieces were struck much later as the style of the reverse is similar to the British of 1825 onwards. This would suggest that 1822 is the more likely date for this piece. There also exists an example 'post-dated' 1827.

Medals Order of the Dogwood - Province of British , aded to The Rt.Hon. Sir Robert Bellinger, Lord Mayor of London 1966. 55mm diameter, 101.37 grammes of 10 carat gold, along with 18mm 10 Carat gold miniature. Obverse: The image of the Dogwood flower, Reverse: Provincial Coat of Arms. UNC, inscribed to the recipient in a presentation box, and accompanied by a 10 carat gold miniature similar in design. The predecessor to the Order of the Dogwood, called the Dogwood was created by the provincial government in 1958 to mark the Centennial of the establishment of the Colony of . In turn, the Order of the Dogwood was created by Order in Council during a provincial cabinet meeting held at Fort Langley on November 19th 1966 to mark the centennial of the union of the Colony of British Columbia with the Colony of Island. At the conclusion of the meeting Lieutenant Governor George Pearkes (who was a future recipient of the honour) gave consent to the creation of the honour, then presented at the Day dinner that followed. The honour was then presented to the first 5 recipients:- The , Viscount Amory (Governor of the Hudson Bay Company), Sir Robert Bellinger, Clarence , and Frank Mackenzie Ross. Mackenzie and Ross were present for the ceremony. The Order of the Dogwood was the highest provincial honour until 1989, when it was replaced by the Order of British Columbia. Other recipients of the award include Queen I, , The Princess (), and Princess Alexandra. The last recipient was Terry Fox (Canadian Athlete, humanitarian and cancer research activist) in 1980. Only 13 people have been awarded the Order of the Dogwood, and as the award was replaced in 1989 by the Order of British Columbia, there will be no future recipients. Sir Robert was a controversial London Mayor in 1966-1967 and was a stt of the Nation Savings movement. His time as Mayor from 1966-1967 coincided with the Government which was eager to blame the City for the nation's economic woes. Rather than confine himself to ceremonial duties, Bellinger responded firmly on the City's behalf emphasising it's contributions through invisible earnings. He protested again when the Labour Government in October 1974 decided to abolish the 10 Pence savings stamp. Although the stamps paid no interest and was costly to administer it attracted £120 million a year from schoolchildren, housewives and factory workers. Bellinger hailed it as 'the grass roots of savings activity in this country'. He was appointed one of Her Majesty's lieutenants for the City in 1976, was also a trustee for St. Paul's cathedral and Chairman of the 's Freemans school. Bellinger had previously been knighted in 1964 and appointed GBE in 1967 He was Gentleman Usher of the Purple Rod (a role akin to treasurer) of the Order of the , and also held decorations from , , and . In his later years, Sir Robert became a director of Arsenal Club and was elected life president of the club in 1997. He died in July 2002. A rare opportunity to purchase an award only offered to 13 individuals including many Royal recipients. See also the impressive group of medals also awarded to Sir Robert Bellinger

World Banknotes 1 The First Issue dated 4th November 1826 signed James More for the Accountant and Archibald Bonar for the ier. Calloway and Murphy RB38. Vignette of & Britannia upper centre surmounted by , Pay Andrew Bogle or the bearer and an elaborate printed reverse. William Home Lizars the printer and engraver who prepared some of Scotland's finest banknote designs, was asked to engrave new £1 and 1 Guinea notes in 1825. There was already a family connection with the bank as his father Daniel Lizars had been a customer since at least 1799 and William himself had been ed a credit of £300 in 1812 'upon an obligation Sir Alex Jardine, Bart (his brother-in-law) and Charles Stewart Printer in Edinburgh being in place of one held by Daniel Lizars, Engraver here.' (his father Daniel had just died). Both the £1 and 1 Guinea notes employ a much more intricate and detailed engraving techniques possible when using harder steel plate. Lizars was at the forefront of these techniques. Both the £1 and the 1 Guinea for the first time for the Royal Bank have printed reverses. These 1 Guinea notes are the last to be issued by the Royal Bank whose minutes indicated that some 550 books at 400 notes per book were issued (= 220,000 notes). Issuance ceased in February 1830 after yet another . The bank's records refer to Steel Plates No. 1 to No. 3, from which it is inferred that the original plate was re-engraved, perhaps in response to forgeries. About Fine with pinholes
