Five Pounds PeppiattWhite note London branch dated 28 April 1945 the date on which Benitto Mussolini was executed Serial no. J05 045963, VF or better with signs of slight creasing through the centre of the note with staining on the reverse bottom right hand corner from mount and stamped with numbers 2201 in top left in line with vignette otherwise a well presented and clear note. an example of a Military Payment Note printed on the heavier Thick Paper with incorporation of Metal thread with new prefix numbering system showing five figures in the watermark instead of the previous four. Few examples in grade EF or higher have appeared with us in the present year.
Five Pounds PeppiattWhite note B241b BRISTOL branch issue dated 1st April 1935 serial number T/179 44540, a presentable and well-preserved VF with a minor inked signature at lower right reverse and an Exceptionally Rare note . In fact we have only offered 1 example in December 2019 in good Fine again with a small inked annotation that realised £2000. Also historically this is an example of the last ever branch issued notes as at the outbreak of World War II all branches ceased issuing notes. Issuing became centralized in the main office in London and the branches only served as distribution centres.

Britannia medallion at upper left red SPECIMEN overprint in solid capitals twice diagonally at centre left and across signature at lower right. These notes were produced for the benefit of foreign central banks. They should have been returned and destroyed when no longer needed for reference, but that was not always the case.
