Ten Shillings Bradbury Third Issue T20 Red Dash in No. in serial number issue 16th December 1918 serial number B/11 078451, in a PMG holder graded about UNC 53 EPQ and a high grade and well-preserved note for its age now over a century old. These 10 Shilling notes were produced as a result of the halt in production of the earlier Second issue with black serial numbers as there were widespread complaints that they were too easily confused with the 1 Pound notes of the same period. This resulted in the serial numbers being changed to red and these the last for the Bradbury issues with recorded prefixes only in 2 letters - B and C. An excellent opportunity for any collector to add a high-grade example of these George V period issues
Ten Shillings Bradbury First Issue T9 Dash in ornate font No. Six digit serial De La Rue Red issue 1914 serial number A/16 700727, another more than a century old, Exceptionally Rare and well preserved example in GVF to EF for type showing very minimal signs of wear and no observable flaws. This is also a World War I Emergency issue that is the product of the overnight work between the Lord Atterbury, Controller of H.M Stationery Office and Sir John Bradbury, the Secretary to the Treasury. This type with only a single letter prefix "A" recorded
Ten Shillings Bradbury Third issue T17 Waterlow Bros & Layton photogravure print Brown, Purple and Green issue 1918 a single prefix variety and the first example of this design for the 10 Shillings serial number A16 / 999270, crisp and presentable about EF with a minor set of pinholes to upper centre left quadrant on Britannia illustration. An excellent and beautiful design work of Bertram Mackennal
Ten Shillings Bradbury First Issue T10 Red De La Rue Dot in No. 5 Digit serial number issue 1914 series B/23 30179 and a scarcer type note with "P" of "POSTAGE" visible in watermark at top left above George V medallion, presentable Fine with small edge nicks and very minor pinholes to upper left, expected for the note's age. In 1914 just prior to the outbreak of World War I Lord Atterbury, Controller of H.M Stationery Office and Sir John Bradbury, the Secretary to the Treasury met at his house and they produced a design for these 10 Shillings and 1-pound notes just overnight. Due to no banknote paper available at the time except for the one in use for the White notes of Bank of England and for a rather rapid issuance of the notes simple cypher watermarked postal stamp paper was utilised. In addition to this, in order to increase the effectiveness of the productivity, a small number of notes were printed sideways at the edges of the sheets to fill the blank space resulting in another rare watermark variety known as the sideways watermark. In short, these watermark varieties are rather Rarer compared to the other notes as there would be a very limited number of them per sheet, on top of the fact that these notes are over a century old now with very few survivors seen nowadays. Therefore, this provides an exclusive window of opportunity for any collector to acquire this excellent example

An interesting inked annotation on the reverse reads "U.D.F to F.U.G / Peace day / 11 Nov 1918" which is indeed the date of the armistice signed at Le Francport near Compiegne that ended fighting on land, sea and air in World War I between the Allies and Germany, also known as the Armistice of Compiegne where it was signed at 5:45 a.m. by the French Marshal Foch and came into force at 11:00 a.m. Paris time on 11 November 1918 and marked a victory for the Allies and a defeat for Germany, although not formally a surrender. It is uncertain if the lettering was made on this exact date but it is very likely as the first issue date for these notes is 22nd October 1918 which puts them at the appropriate time, so this makes a very interesting piece which possibly had and still is bearing a significant historical echo across the decades
