Seychelles Thomas De la Rue underprint black & white Progressive Proofs for the 1918-36 George V portrait issue 1 and 5 Rupee Plates (3) all with Printer's Annotations, Thomas De La Rue imprint, well kept and all have pinholes. Consisting of a progressive proof for the 1 Rupee with Printer's Annotations in the border frame possibly for corrections, this has a minor Inner Tear and Rust paper clip marks possibly when displayed and archived in regard to the corrections. Along with Progressive proofs for the 5 Rupees both stuck on photographic paper (2) including the initial inspected proof and annotations of 2 flaw areas in the border frame areas near lower right and upper left corners near numerical denomination values. Along with the proof after corrections have taken place pointing to the same areas. An Exceptionally Rare and interesting find, infect our research could not find any similar proof's appearing on the internet. A unique opportunity for any collector to obtain these fine proof examples of the first Seychelles own Rupee currency which was circulating with and slowly replaced the Mauritius rupee, and these issues were the only circulating currency in the form of banknotes until the first introduction of coins in 1939. All UNC and single tiny faint stain on each note these however not extending into design. Extremely Rare. With the passage of the Union Bank of Burma Act 1952, the sole right of currency issued was transferred from the Burma Currency Board to a newly created Currency Department of the Union Bank of Burma with effect from 1st July 1952. The Burma Currency Board was abolished and its asset and liabilities were transferred to the Union Bank of Burma. Another important change in the new currency is the conversion to a decimal system. When the Union Bank of Burma took over the central bank’s responsibilities, a token issue of the bank notes was made on 1st July 1952. The new bank notes had the rupee denominations (1,5,10,100 rupees) that was later connected to kyat. It included peacock water mark. This set has been given to Mr. Sidney Wellington, Office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom who had been working with the UK & Burma Currency Board at the time and the set had stayed in possession of the family ever since. Comes with the contemporary brown envelope abbreviated at top left O.H.M.S (On His Majesty's Service) and the Royal Cypher G.R. of King George VI at bottom left along with a Burma Currency Board seal proof card. BurmaSpecimen Set ND 1948/1949 Independence from the British transition to Republic (4) comprising 1 Rupee looks like Pick 34 unlisted series 1E 000000 Peacock at right obverse & Sailing boat reverse. 5 Rupees looks like Pick 35 unlisted series 1A 000000 Chinze at right obverse & Woman spinning wheel reverse. 10 Rupees looks like Pick 36 unlisted series 1A 000000 Peacock at right obverse & Man riding elephant lifting log reverse. 100 Rupees looks like Pick 37 unlisted series 1C 000000 Rangoon dated 1st January 1948 Peacock at centre Chinze at right obverse & Farmer and oxen on reverse. All UNC and single faint stain on each note these however not extending into design. Extremely Rare. When Burma gained independence from the British, it became a republic and the heading on the note was changed to GOVERNMENT OF THE UNION OF BURMA. As the Burma Currency Board notes increased in number, it was decided to demonetize all those India notes marked "Legal Tender in Burma Only" from 1st July 1948. This set has been given to Mr. Sidney Wellington, Office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom who had been working with the UK & Burma Currency Board at the time and the set had stayed in possession of the family ever since. Comes with the contemporary brown envelope abbreviated at top left O.H.M.S (On His Majesty's Service) and the Royal Cypher G.R. of King George VI at bottom left.
