Engelbertus Sterckx (2 November 1792 - 4 December 1867) was ministered to the priest in 1815, became a teacher in the major seminary in Mechelen and pastor in Boechout (1821) and pastor's blanket in Antwerp in 1824. In 1827 he became Deputy General and in 1832 the fourteenth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mechelen. On August 28, 1838, he was received by Pope Gregory XVI and on September 13, his appointment was cardinal confirmed by the Cardinal Board. On October 23, he was solemnly welcomed to Mechelen. This medal was issued on the occasion of this nomination.
