JamaicaSix Shillings and Eightpence GR countermark, undated (1758) on Mexico City 8 Reales host coin KM#8.2, host coin 1758 Mo MM (KM#104.1), 26.66 grammes, Countermark and host coin both Fine and bold. A very rare issue, we note an example sold in London Coins Auction A126 9/6/2006 Lot 534 described as 'Fine with some surface marks and spots' realised £460 hammer price, this example considerably superior. Cataloguers Note: In 1758 the Jamaica assembly passed an act which provided that some of the new Spanish milled money should be made lagal tender and have a fixed value. £100,000 was proposed and to distinguish the re-valued coins, they were countermarked with the initials of the reigning monarch, George II. This succeeded in raising the value of the Dollar to 6 Shillings and Eight Pence. All of the new money, stamped or not also passed at this rate. Home authorities, on receiving copies of the local act, repealed it and the Governor of Jamaica was censured for exceeding his powers. Only £12,000 of coinage was countermarked and the project was abandoned in 1759.

Triple Unite 1642 Oxford Mint with tall narrow bust, declaration within wavy lines, plumes with bands on obverse only, Spink 2724, Schneider 284, Brooker 830, North 2381 a splendid example of the iconic coin graded and encapsulated by NGC as AU53 rare and desirable thus, comes with a retail ticket price of £65,000 which being the price the current vendor paid some years ago surely makes this lot a bargain at the current estimate. The English Civil War was in progress when this fabulous coin was stuck after Charles raised the Royal Standard in Nottingham on 22nd August 1642 he set up his court in Oxford where this spectacular piece was minted. The war against Cromwell's New Model Army dragged on until 1646 by which time Oxford was besieged with Charles escaping dressed as a servant. Charles joined the Scottish Presbyterian army but nine months later was handed over to the English Parliament after a payment of £100,000 was made. Negotiations between King and Parliament began but descended into intrigue as Charles made a secret deal with the Scots who invaded England in 1648 starting the Second Civil War. Once again Cromwell's New Model Army prevailed with Charles fleeing to Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight. Further negotiations collapsed into disarray with Parliament reducing itself to the so called Rump Parliament which eventually resulted in the trial and execution in January 1649 of Charles I

Turkey (3) comprising 50 Kurus (2) Pick 133 L. 1930 President Mustafa İsmet İnönü at right & Community Center, Ankara series B25 386933 EF or better slight wrinkling considered from water damage given its history along with the later note which got issued after the bombing Pick 134 President Mustafa İsmet İnönü at centre & Central Bank building Ankara series C2 090520. Also the 100 Lira Pick NL unrecorded L.1930 President Mustafa İsmet İnönü at right & Dardanelles view at reverse series H19 02888 Fine - about VF small piece missing from bottom right corner, a small tear at upper centre at fold and a small light rust mark to left but very well kept and an Exceptionally Scarce notes as our research could find that this issue was on a ship (SS City of Roubaix) bombed by Germany while at Piraeus Harbour (Greece) April 6, 1941 near the beginning of WWII. The Turkish government cancelled the issue and arranged for another instead. All available examples were rescued from the sea therefore signs of salt water damage are to be expected. "There is no official recovery record of the 100 Lira notes from the wreck. They were not handed over by the Greek authorities to the Republic of Turkey like the 50 Kurus notes. It is believed the notes that escaped confiscation were also introduced by Greek and non-Muslim tradesmen and put into circulation in the smaller provinces of Turkey, where communications were poor. The variety of notes confused the public, who were not in a position to tell if the notes were legitimate or not. What is certain is these original notes are extremely rare. Only two pieces were reportedly seen in Turkey in the last few decades. The same is true for the 50 Lira note (P136). Not more than a couple has ever been reported. Although also very hard to acquire, Thomas De La Ruespecimen notes remain the best bet for filling this historic gap in a bank note collection of Turkish Republic issues." Crown 1834 ESC 275 the John Jay Pittman example (David Akers sale Numismatic Inc 6-8 August 1999 Lot 3864) choice FDC pleasing old grey tone with orange and gold hues in places, free of contact marks and hairlines a choice coin. Rated R5 by ESC 5 - 10 examples known, and in today's buoyant and international market a difficult piece to estimate. Heritage of Dallas sold a high grade example in 2011 which realised $69,000 (£44,000 at 2011 exchange rates, £56,000 at todays) but key date rarities in choice grades have surged forward since then. For example the sister coin to this the 1831 crown with a mintage 10 to 15 times greater than the 1834 would have realised £8000 - £10000 in 2011 or put another way the 1834 could expect to realise 4 - 5 times more than the 1831 in a like for like grade, but an 1831 Crown in MS65 just realised £61,000 hammer price in St James Coinex sale September 2016. As this piece is choice and has been graded 88 by LCGS one could predict an MS65 could be given if submitted to the US graders and could argue that a £200,000 - £300,000 price ticket would not be absurd. However we have estimated it more conservatively and will await the results of the bidding. All William IV crowns are rare and sought after by collectors ESC lists three varieties of the 1831 in silver these were made for inclusion in the 1831 Proof Sets which had a mintage of just 225, a gold example is known dated 1831, a trial strike in lead dated 1832 and rated R7 (one or two in existence) and the 1834. This is the first 1834 example we have offered and the only example graded by LCGS whilst we have previously offered 11 examples of the 1831 crown and LCGS have graded three 1831s. Our research has found no other 1834 crowns sold since 2011 and this Pittman example to our knowledge has not been offered at auction since 1999 so if you are interested in choice rarities of the sort offered globally once or twice a decade this is the lot for you.
USAHalf Dollar Commemorative 1892 Columbian Exposition ProofBreen 7420, nFDC and superb with a light golden tone, and plenty of eye appeal, Extremely Rare with only 103 examples minted, these being 1-100, numbers 400, 1492 and 1892 also being Proofs. This and the other two Proof coins from a provincial sale also containing items from the estate of McCormick believed to be descendants of the McCormick family of International Harvester of Chicago, major exhibitors at the Columbian Exposition of 1892, so would explain how he obtained these Proof pieces. We note another Proof example sold for $42,250 in 2002, very seldom offered for sale, a rare opportunity
