English Coins 1920 Davies 1672N struck in a hard nickel type alloy and weighing 11.92 gr. There are 1924 nickel s, with a very rare example struck metrically weighing 5 gr. The 1672N Halfcrown listed here may also be a R.M. trial, when a complete elimination of silver seemed feasible. There appears to be an interesting 'privy' mark, introduced by a thicker downstroke to the 'D' of 'Dei' with the top and bottom serifs of this 'D' being double struck. The border bead above compensates for this downstroke by being oversized. This would be an odd occurrence for any counterfeiter, especially on top of striking perfectly die-cut, but lightweight coins in this hard metal, and having excellent milling. Only 6 of these examples are known to the vendor, NF/VG

The vendor now in his 80s has had this coin in his possession for 15 - 20 years, and was given it as a gift by a night club owner in who ran an antique shop as a hobby to enable him to acquire antiques "over the counter", neither the current vendor (who for many years believed the coin was a ) nor the night club owner were interested in coins and the presumption was it came in over the counter 20 - 40 years ago as part of an antique or perhaps contained in an antique piece or furniture. Well struck and pleasing VF without problems or weak areas all design and legend bold and clear.

English Coins 1831 Plain edge with WW in script, with upright die axis alignment, unrecorded by ESC, Davies or Spink however we note that Coincraft lists the piece as W4HC-025 and also Spink lists an 1831 Crown with a similar die axis alignment, FDC or very near so with a deep blue and green tone. Weight 13.74 grammes. Cataloguers note: Coincraft states that these pieces were possibly struck at a later date, indeed, close inspection of the coin shows that the rim is of a wider type and more akin to the later currency pieces 1834-1837 and also states that some of these weigh 'c.13 grammes', We note there was no example of this type in the Colin Adams Collection

Hammered Coins , Heavy Coinage (1399-1412) mint mark Cross Pattee, old arms with four lis in French quarters, crescent on rudder, nails on ships side point to the left S.1705 North 1336 (a), as Schneider 189 with minor stop variations, Good EF about as struck, the portrait especially bold and clear and struck on a full round flan with all legends and details sharp and crisp, weight 7.71 grammes. A rarer type and in superior grade to the S.1706 cf.Schneider 194 specimen sold at St. James Auction 30/9/2010 which realised £56,000 hammer price. This coin is from the MPO Utrecht auction May 2003 where a large European hoard was sold which included over 130 English Nobles (mostly and ) and many hundreds of continental pieces. The most recent English issues were 3 Henry IV Heavy Nobles this lot being one so the hoard must have been lost soon after these were struck thus the exceptionally high grade. A choice example of the extremely rare first type of Henry IV Heavy Coinage seldom offered for sale in any grade, this coin is certainly amongst the or perhaps the best extant of this type. World Coins 1874 Fine Beard KM#1.2 NGC AU55, EF/GEF and extremely rare in this pleasing and high grade. This 1874 issue was South Africa's first circulating Pond (Pound or ) issue, engraved by Leonard Wyon the then engraver and struck by the Heaton Mint Birmingham. The coin was rejected by South African legislators who objected to the use of the portrait of Thomas Burgers the 2nd president of the Republic and the man entrusted with the design. The total issue of 695 were sold off as novelties with the vast majority becoming jewellery pieces, hence the extreme rarity of undamaged examples in this high grade. As well as South African collectors the coin fits well into any comprehensive Sovereign collection being the same weight and fineness, and in fact an example was sold in the recent Bentley Sovereign at Baldwins which realised £38,000

Certified Coins 1842 with Open 2 over 1 in date, with the pointed 4 in the date, as normally associated with this variety, this significant coin thus proving that the 1841 dies were re-used the following year.
