The obverse in black on blue and light blue underprint featuring Australia Coat of Arms, officially known as the Commonwealth Coat of Arms with a shield depicting the 6 states and held by the native Australian animals - the kangaroo and emu bird, along with a portrait of Sir John Franklin, a Royal Navy officer and a famous explorer of the who disappeared and died along with the crew on his last expedition in 1847 whilst attempting to chart and navigate the Northwest passage in the North n Arctic.
